Drive home

Driving home from DC to OH. What a drive. This thing is a beast. It definitely needs a gauge pack.

$239 plus $29 for the pod. Gives you everything and much much more than the FRPP kit. Mine's already here just waiting for the Boss.

It's nice to have oil pressure on a race car. Just my thoughts

I thought it strange that the Boss did not have an OP gauge standard. It's odd that not one review or test drive, I read, mentioned that it this was an issue or bothered them. No one made the point it should have had one.....

The way I see it, the dummy lights will let me know when something is wrong before I'll notice a drop in oil pressure while on a road course anyway.

I have been considering the aeroforce in an vent gauge pod as well, but since the only round vents are on the left if the steering wheel and right of the glove box, the gauge would be difficult to monitor while driving. Still, it's about a grand cheaper, though, I haven't ruled it out.

The Boss gauge pod (without gauges) is only 120$. You can then out in whatever you want.

And conversely other than mentioning the LS had the gauge pod nobody said anything else about it. I like the gauge pod but it's expensive and more eye candy than anything. If I do buy it, not likely, I'll go all the way and get the Ford gauges.

Yea I was bummed the Boss didn't have the round vents in the center console which is where I put the gauge on my GT500. I'll report back on how easy/difficult it is to scan on the left side while on track. To be honest, I usually only look at them on the straights anyway as I'm a little busy in the corners I find gauges on top of the dash or A-pillar are more disruptive in terms of visibility, but that's just me.

Ron did you make it home safely? We need more photos and a video exhaust clip.

I did make it home safely, my 20yr old son drove the other car ahead of me about 5 mi ahead keeping me posted on speed traps. Let's just say this car moves quickly. I'm looking through the manual. The GT has 4 gauges, the boss has 2. The boss does not have oil pressure H-L or battery H-L. Still scratching my head on that one.

The gauge pack is the same in the LS. But of course the LS has the gauge pod on the dash.

So does the 155 mph speed limiter work and does it rev to 7,800 rpm's?

Wow, really? I can see why you're scratching your head. I figured it would have at least the dummy switch for oil pressure H-L. I guess I'll be ordering the oil pressure sensor for my Aeroforce gauge.

Did not get it to 155, but 135 in 5th with room, it was fun. I just found a male to male cord for the Aux input for an IPod. Basic, but works fine.

Does anybody know whether the oil pressure info is available through the obda or if, in fact, an aftermarket pressure sensor is required? I was under the impression that the standard boss would have the info available through the obda so that either the ford racing gauges or other aftermarket gauges would be plug and play.

The regular 6-gauge oil pressure 'gauge' isn't real. It only has two states, the sender is actually a switch. The LS Boss uses a different sender so that the gauge pack will work properly.

For the V6/GT 'gauge' - see page 413-01-36 of this section of the shop manual. You will see that the gauge is really just an idiot light with moving parts, and the signal comes from a switch and not a sender.
