Yeah, part of the reason I've stayed away from the S197 for so long. I just liked my SN95 size better. But the S550 is bigger, so...

Far From Fat: 2015 Mustang Lighter Than Previously Thought

Recently Ford tuner Steeda stated that the 2015 Ford Mustang had gained nearly 300lbs. Later, though, they retracted their statement saying it was just a guess based on “previous experience” with IRS suspension Mustangs. Well, now a Florida dealer has shared some new information on the 2015 Mustang and it’s some great news—in a way.

I realize this is a 2015 sausage fest and there is a fanboy following for this new car in this thread. And thats cool because im a Ford guy. I currently own 3 Fords! But what the future S550 owners "which might include myself " need to realize is that criticism is a fundamental right as an American! And im as American as it gets! I like the new Mustang! Im thinking of either the R/T Charger or the S550 for the wife, she really wants a Charger but im a Ford guy so its still up in the air lol. But i dont get the fanboy mind set " im sorry" but i personally like the S197's better! I may be critical but i don't hate! I hope the S550 does well its just not for me lol! The fact is that Ford absolutely biult the S197 5.0 so well that even with its live rear axle, that the next Mustang has some big shoes to fill! After the 2010 Camaro came out and wooped the 4.6 Mustang "the 370z even wooped it in a drag race" i was let down by ford! But then the knight in shining armor arrived! The 2011 S197 5.0 and wow did that Stang do work;-) this Mustang handed all others there ***! So lets not forget the S197 5.0 and talk down to it! Thats all for my rant lol, let the flaming begin!

I also like the S550, but something about it will take some time to get use to. Newer isn't "always" better for everyone.

Think of all the press, publicity, oooohhhh's and aaaaahhh's the 1971 Mustang got when it came out.......

I'd rather have a 1970 though

These strut tower braces are for the Performance Pack options for both the EcoBoost and GT.

That's my point. You won't really notice 100 lbs lol.

now, when I have a couple friends in the car with me I can definitely tell the difference, however ^^

Wow I'm glad I went the with the 2014...

My Dad's (Passed away 1.5 years ago) 2010 Taurus has the strut tower to the firewall bracing like in the picture. Just saying......................

I don't see why the additional weight gain is an issue? would you personally be able to tell? I doubt it. its a beautiful looking car and its going to sell like hotcakes. Main reason I didn't order one and went with the S197 was 2 things.

1 - time... had no idea when i would be able to order it and didn't want to wait for it.
2- I've had bad luck with buying first year redesigns and went with the S197 being it had a few years with that design to work out the bugs.
