Eco Boost Performance or GT
Eco Boost Performance or GT
I myself am going to get an automatic (more practical for me)
I have never owned a Mustang before. I can't decide if I want to get the Eco Boost model with an AT and the Eco Boost performance package or the GT model with an AT. I know there is a huge price difference of around 4-5k, but I have a budget of 36k so going under budget with the Eco Boost model wouldn't hurt.
I see from UN confirmed specs that the GT again has a 3.15 rear slip and the Eco Boost performance has a 3.55 rear slip.
Would the Eco performance with the 3.55 be more fun to drive than the GT with 3.15? :/

I've said it before, I love a high revving DOHC 4 (previously owning a J-H/Lotus 907 for 15yrs back in the day). I bet a Turbo adds some blast off! My winter car is a DOHC 4 but its cammed more like a truck engine. I still love screaming it. lol
However, in a car the size of a Mustang, and the fact that it is a Mustang, V8 rumble all the way baby! Even if you have to compromise with an auto.
If you do go for the 2.3LEB, can you get 3.73's? Being a turbo you want higher revs. Which of course defeats the alleged higher mileage a bit.
Many of the F150 V6EB guys wish they would have bought the 5.0 because having their foot in it results in worse mileage than the V8.
IMO

I think the 3.55 is also a stand alone option on the GT but I wouldn't get it for a DD.

For my complete and honest opinion though... you'll have to just drive both.
The 2.3 EB will probably make as much or more tq down low than the 5.0
I would say GT. However good the Egoboost might be, blatting turbo fours are becoming drearily common whereas roaring hi-po V8s will become increasing rare. Regardless of the numbers, I also think a V8 provides a superior sensory experience--sound, smoothness, etc.
My dilemma is a Premium Ecoboost Convertible vs a Premium GT Coupe.
I'm not a huge performance guy. Won't be doing the Perf. Pack. Only options would be Auto and 50th Anniv. Appearance Pkg. There is only $1500 or so separating the two EB Vert vs. 5.0. Can't afford both.
We already have an 11 V6 vert that we are keeping so I'm leaning toward the GT couple. I like the "potential" mileage of the EB but im afraid I'd want the power of the GT. On the other hand, I don't very many opportunities to use the power that the V6 has.
Aaagh..First World Problems!!

First gear is very steep on the MT82 at a 3.66 gear ratio (and the 6R80 is even steeper at 4.17) compared to the current GT500's 2.66 or even the older GT500's 2.97
By way of comparison the 2011+ Mustang GT was only about 220 lbs/ft down at the axle in first gear compared to the 07-09 GT500 in first gear at the axle and with the optional 3.31 final drive a tiny bit ahead at the axle and with the 3.73 final drive a decidedly better 600 lbs/ft ahead.

In the picture you built here, I'd do the EB. Sounds like you don't get on it much and/or don't have the opportunity to. So why get a ton of power in a coupe? You exp would be almost what you already have. The EB will have more power than you have now. Plus give better mpgs. Plus give you the vert.
.I agree, sounds like he could use the extra power of the EB, but doesn't need the GT. A tune or bigger turbo could always help too, in the event he wants more power
Either way you're not going to lose. 5.0 V8 is the overall bad boy, ultimate. The EB will be a totally worthy Mustang engine, and certainly better in a couple areas - runs on 87 octane, and should be economical with it.

Coulda Woulda Shoulda...
