Can’t get my rear axles to spin help please
Can’t get my rear axles to spin help please
So recently I brought down my rear differential on my 2014 mustang gt track pack and when I took out my rear axles and tried putting them back in they wouldn’t want to get pushed all the way through to the C clip position nor did they want to spin anymore it seems like I locked the inside of the differential somehow but I’m confused if anyone needs pictures I’ll be gladly to upload some

So originally I was hearing a squeak coming from the rear passenger wheel and I did a bearing change and got new rotors etc, squeak still stayed on the car only when I would drive off then it would just go quite then loud squeak and it would be even louder when applying breaks, but the plan was to get a different from the junk yard and swap over the axles but that didn’t work and I heard a bunch of clunking when I installed it with the different axles, restarted all over again brought down the diff took out axles and tried putting my originals back in but they don’t want to go fully in or like up it’s weird I’ll send a picture right now

So I got a 2010 8.8 with 331 gears off a gt I knew if I was gonna instal the whole differential I was gonna need the cobra flange so I just tried using the axles off of it to see if that would elimate the squeak but no it ended up not working so idk what to do now since I put the original ones in and they don’t wanna go in

As Per Rock Auto The 2010 & 2014 Axles Are The Same. You Are Aware The R/R is a Bit Longer than The L/R???
Did You Swap Both The Carrier and The Pinion Gear From Bone Yard Housing and What Ratio Did Your Car Have??? Or Did You Swap Entire Housing??
Or Are You Saying You Got Entire Housing From 2010 and Just Pulled The Axles Out of It and Tried in Your Existing Housing in Car???

Yes I’m aware the the left axle and right axle are different sizes well one a lil bigger then the other if that’s what you mean and no I kept the original ones from my 3.73 gears only, think I swapped from the 2010 diff was the axles but then I put back my original ones the 2010 diff was never put on

You Are Welcome!
One Quick Thought. The 8.8s Are Supposed To Have o-rings in the Groove Where The C-Clip Slides into. Now I Kept Checking This Out Cause The Part Number Keeps Coming Up By The Axles But Never Really Shows it On the Axle. A Lot of Bantering Back and Forth on if it is Needed or Really There in Other Forums. Well it's Mentioned in the Shop Manual Pdf's Very Covertly and Just Says Don't Damage. 35+ Years Selling Ford Parts & I can't Recall Ever Being Asked For One. Anywhoo Check the Grooves On the Axles and See If Any of The Axles Have them. My Thought Maybe Just Maybe They Came off are Jammed Up in the Housing / Side Gears. Maybe a Long Shot. Might Pull The Axle and Shine a Light Down The Tube if You Have Not Already!

I Just Checked Tasca Ford Inventory They Have 83 In Stock! I Guess Somebody Uses Them!
Anyhoo That's My Hail Mary Pass For The Time Being!
Maybe Some 8.8 Guru Can Grace Us With the Lowdown. All My Hands On Diff Experience Is With Drop Out Style Ford 9 Inch and Mopar 8 3/4 and That has Been Awhile back!

Yea I noticed those O rings I was assuming they were to keep the c clips stiff so I didn’t mess with them once I’m up in the morning I’ll get back to sending pictures and updating y’all, have a goodnight and thank y’all
On the Orings...Ford Put those there really just to hold the C clip so it wouldn't move or fall out....I honestly have never found one in any of the probably 200 plus rear ends I have removed axles from and I never put them back because they aren't needed and don't cause any issues without them or make any noise. You can use them if you like...won't make a difference either way.
Now as far as your problem.....Did you remove the ABS sensor when you removed the axles? I'm assuming you did because it's nearly impossible to get the axles in far enough to remove the C clips without doing so. Now in the picture above it looks like the axle is still pushed in....if it is not pulled back out where you can no longer see the C clip then the ABS toner ring can catch on the bolts for the caliper mounting bracket and would cause the axle to lock up and not spin.
As far as the noise you were hearing, from what you posted and stating that it would change when you applied the brakes then I would first look into the brake components for the squeak...rather than deeper into the rear end.
I'm not sure what the 2010 rear end is that you picked up but it looks like this is a Torsen differential rather than the standard traction lock found on the standard GT.

Abs sensor would be the wire right or is it something in the differential that I have to remove too? Only think I took off was the c clips the carrier pin and then I pulled the axles out, but yes picture where you can see it pushed in is the max it goes and the one with the c clip in I kinda had to force it in but still like it won’t spin

I Would Guess Get The Sensors Pulled & See What Happens!
Maybe Some Sensor Damage!
Never thought of the Abs Sensors! Doh!

Each axle has an exciter ring pressed on it and in the caliper mounting bracket there is a sensor that is bolted in that reads that exciter ring. This tells the computer what the speed of each wheel is. In order to push the axle all the way in to remove the C clips you have to remove that sensor otherwise it won't go all the way or you crush or break the sensor in order to get it to go that far. I suspect that might be where your binding is. Can you take a picture of the back of the axle where it is against the rear end flange/caliper mounting bracket?
