Another 2011 GT engine failure
I must be lucky because I have had my 2011 stang for about 14 months and luckily not one single issue. I think you V8 guys may be riding her a bit to hard. Don't you know slow and steady wins the race. Lmao.
Guess that 5.0 V8 is more dependable than the few whiners allege.

No disrespect to the V6 though. great motor, great car.
Most of the 5.0 complaints is internet hype and faulty aftermarket tunes

In short tuners were being a little bit too agressive cause some #8 cylinders to run too hot. It was an aftermarket growing pain.

definitely not a weak motor...teething pains for tuners (although only a few instances, I DO think Ford has probably realized already that #8 cooling wise might need a slight revision), and a couple instances of unacceptable oil consumption.
for a lightweight aluminum motor, its a very impressive piece.
I am kinda worried -er, curious- on the gt500 5~10~20 yrs down the road how the sprayed iron liners will hold up, at only like .006" thick finished, just wonder what happens when a couple thou wears away combined with temperature cycling... I'm sure Fords looked into it for durability- but just gotta wonder if 5~10 yrs is far enough out of warranty, do they really worry about it? its a neat concept, but still seems to me to be a kinda scary way to lose 8 pounds...seems to me as a lot of shelbys seem to get stored away how sitting will affect them too, as part of the spray liner is basically rust

I think what it really is that the car has the ability to burn off 3-4 quarts in a thousand miles tune or not. Most people don't check their oil in a "new car" that often. They buy it figuring it's like the other cars they've owned in the past and that they won't have a problem because it's new. I checked my oil before a 1000 mile trip and it was in the operating range, and though I was driving fairly hard, it burned off 5 quarts and blew up before the very first oil change. I know some people might say well you shouldn't drive that hard, thinking that I have no clue how a engine should be maintained. I put 43,000 miles on a z06 and drove that car into the ground, I only checked the oil before I tracked it, I never checked when I was using it as DD, and it never burned off any oil. I put 20,000 miles on a 400 whp evoX and never added oil to the car. Their Ford shop manager that (dealer that replaced my engine) told me that they've had a couple 5.0's in the shop because they burned of oil till the engine seized I'm thinking there's a lot more of these engine going down than what's the "internet hype." When it comes down to it, Ford has horrible quality control on this new 5.0 gt.
To not check the engine oil level frequently is just plain ridiculous. You never know when something could put a hole in the oil pan or filter or something could come loose and cause an oil leak. Checking the oil level in any engine is good preventive maintenance.
Yup...especially a high compression high hp car.

Hell, my 12 year old Explorer will tell you when the oil is low.
