From reading the links below it appears to me that the Operating system was developed by Microsoft. Some or all applications where developed by Ford. Some could have been done by MS as well, but it does not give that kind of detail.

I"ll be getting a 2013 Stang.
Just not sure if spending 2Gs on a Nav is worth it.

Has anyone tried using Iphone Siri through MyFordTouch via bluethooth?
I guess the latest one on 2012s.

If the handsfree phone part works, I guess Siri should also be able to use Fords mic for input and speaker system for output?

Also can Siri be activated by one of the steering wheel controls.
Holding down the key for 2secs instead of a quick 1 sec push?

Apple wont work with Microsoft. So expect limited usability.

I havent really started using Siri yet so no experience there and I havent heard of iPhone integration in Ford Sync. Your phone mic should still work though.

I was concerned with retaining wireless streaming if I changed head units myself, if I didnt get the nav. Ive found that Sync is separate from the unit, so you can retain all of your features including steering wheel buttons. I also like that I get the reverse camera display in the rear view, which frees up a port for another camera if your aftermarket nav unit has it, like the AppRadio. I wanna do a passenger-side curb camera.

P.S. Youd need a new panel & wiring harness too but with a $400 radio/nav unit youll still save well over $1,000 and you get to pick the unit you like.

I love my EP, but I did consider aftermarket. The problem is that there isn't any full 100% compatibility with Sync. . .yet. I read that Kenwood is working on it though.

I have used Siri with my 12 using the mustangs mic and Bluetooth. There is no way on the stang to activate siri. As far as spending 2g, I guess you have to decide its worth it. After spending so much on the GT, I figured what's a few more lol. I know in the long run the nav will be worth it for me. Dual zone climate is also nice. My wife is always freezing and I'm always warm.

I actually opted for the non nav screen.... the only thing I would ever use the screen for is nav and I think the spoken directions through sync will be good enough the few times I actually need it.

Hopefully the IVT team can give us an update on when this is going to be available. I'm still showing 3.1 as the latest version on mine and I ran the update checker last week.

I guess that makes Siri 90% usable. Just need to get a holder/charger that's easy to reach and activate Siri if needed.
As long as sync's mic and speakers are patched in.

Also note that it currently costs $200 for map updates via a CD, which is unbelievable to me. Most GPS units download now and cost half or even a quarter of that amount. After buying an entire car & spending an extra $2k+ on the system? Really? Im sure its nice, but so glad I passed.

Not long ago(late 60s) in a galaxy not far away....I recall hearing....
A Cobrajet motor upgrade, over stock, was only $68.
Now that's value for the dollar. Worth it for the consumer.

Fast forward to the present.
its how many middle men get a cut out of the final product.
$200...really...I'm sure it can be done for $100( even that's too much)
At least give free updates for 3-5 years.
And add live traffic updates to boot.

$2Gs for a Nav system..Should include at least 5 years of free upgrades.

And I can't beleive how expesnive the Stang has become. 40Gs...wow.
My first one was a 1999. I paid 28Gs fully loaded.

Car companies have really been pushing price boundaries.

anyway....enough ranting.

Long Live the Mustang!

I'm starting to believe the only way to update your Sync system with the Electronics Package is to buy the latest model year.
