Sync update v.3.2.2
Hey, everyone -
3.1 is currently the latest version for 2011 models. Our engineers are working on updates, but they don't inform me of timing or availability. As I obtain new information, I promise to share it with you.
PTS is the acronym for our internal dealership database, Professional Technician Society.
3.1.4 has not been released to SyncMyRide as an update, but is available at the dealership for those exhibiting certain concerns. For details, contact the service department at your dealership.

Sorry Jaclyn but you have been misinformed. I had the 3.1.4 update installed in my car recently and it most certainly added the missing "enable MAP" menu option that allowed me to get text messages with my Galaxy phone. Prior to the update, the SYNC system displayed a message saying my phone was incompatible when I tried to enable text notifications.
The MAP update may not be the primary purpose of the 3.1.4 update but it IS an included feature.

Also, it did not cost me any money to have this installed. The dealer said it was covered under 3 year/36,000 mile warranty and that is what my paperwork shows.
So, to summarize, there is an update out there for the 3.1 systems. It's called 3.1.4. You can only get it from the dealer and the dealer can only get it from the PTS. The dealer may or may not charge you to install it. The update adds or exposes the MAP option through the advanced menu.
When I walked in I told the dealer I wanted an oil change and an update to my SYNC which could be obtained from the PTS. He asked me if I was having problems and I just said that texts weren't showing up. That seemed to be reason enough to install it. He didn't even ask if my phone was compatible or not. BTW, it is.

One thing to note, something I discovered only today when I received my first text message through SYNC. The From field contained MY phone number and not the actual person who sent it. This seems to be the same issue as described in this post:

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Yes...is the 3.1.4 update available for non-nav 2011? And as far as being free because it is under the 3 year/36k? Really???? Three years for a software/firmware update is rediculous...and then to not make it widely available...and THEN to possibly charge for it....
According to Ford, it is not an update for general distribution - it's similar to a Windows hotfix that is only available from Microsoft if you call them with a specific problem. Therefore the update is only available for dealer installation and it takes at least an hour. You really expect a dealer to do it for free? They need to get paid either by Ford for warranty work or by the customer for out of warranty work.
It's simple enough to get the 3.1.4 update from Ford... you just have to tell them that you have one of the specific problems it's supposed to fix. Go to your dealer and tell them you can't get text messages with a Samsung Galaxy S III. Tell them it's your girlfriend's (or wife's) phone if they ask to see it (they won't).
You're talking about 1% of fixes that have very specific repros. The majority of them get bundled together in cumulative hotfixes, service packs etc,. And again for a VERY specific repro.
Having any MAP capable phone and not being able to use Bluetooth MAP on the phone affects pretty much every user the SYNC system was intended for. The new software was given a version number (3.1.4).
The problem is I keep getting the runaround, which I shouldn't even be getting if syncmyride worked correctly. Unless you're telling me Ford got it right (not even 100%, say 99%) with 3.1.0 and no further updates were necessary (clearly not!)

Yes, it's true that the majority of hot fixes eventually end up in a service pack or other public distribution. My point was that they don't ALL get publicly released and Ford is claiming (correctly or incorrectly) that this particular update is ONLY for specific issues and not for general distribution.

I think the SYNC/MyFord Touch team is small and focused on releasing new products and not on releasing updates. It's a shame really, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they can't keep up with updates.
