Hasn't happened yet, just been working on planning stuff with the fiancée. As of right now, no changes. I won't have time to order the parts I need until after the first of the year.

 

New to the forum, but I just acquired all the hardware to do the swap except for the dash harness. Can't wait to get started! However is there a certain order or process for doing this without removing the dash? My wife will **** herself if she's me doing that! No really, she will. I also noticed from the pics on eBay that it looks like the f150, Taurus, mustang and fusion nav units all seem to be the same physically, for2010-2012. The screens also appear to be interchangeable. FYI the non mustang stuff is all over eBay for somewhat decent prices.

Good to know that the navs are more common now than when I did it.

As for not removing the dash, you will need to remove EVERY panel that can be removed and have some pretty flexible hands. I would start from the driver's side. If you can, plug in the new harness as you are disconnecting the old one.

I couldn't imagine changing the dash harness without removing the dash. That would be awful.

 

I was planning on using the very small clarion unit, or the alpine I universal kit. I already have the door subs wired to a separate amp so it shouldn't be so bad. I'm also afraid ill end up breaking the dash, just another reason I don't want to take it out, and it's only me doing the install.

 

If it is just you, then better to leave the dash in.

But if you are putting in the dual climate control, you will HAVE to take the dash out.

So, I cant seem to find any info about the main dash harness on the net, at least not part numbers anyway. Long story short I went to the local ford stealership and the guy gave me a runaround about how he needs the radio serial number not my vehicle vin. Doesn't make sense to me, and please correct me if I'm wrong.... I thought they needed the vehicle vin to establish a build date (7/10) to see what harnesses will fit on that car and be compatible with factory nav. The parts guy is saying he has to call the radio company and see if they can look up info about the radio...What I think he was really trying to say was; don't want to help you because we're busy. I tried to explain to him what I was doing but he insisted he needed the radio vin # and something to do with the car it came out of. I also explained that it came from the same year and model vehicle. Maybe he thinks that the plugs on the back of the radio change from year to year (and obviously they might), but in this case its a different radio....so duh! they are different!! Hence needing a different dash harness. Maybe you guys could help me explain to the parts guy exactly what I need. I waited like 20 minutes in line, and then he kind of treated me like I was stupid. So I'm kind of po'ed at the moment

 

Unfortunately, not all parts guys that work at a dealership are knowledgeable and don't know the ins and outs of the parts program they use. I would just call the parts departments of other dealerships until you get someone that knows what they are doing. There is no need for you to personally go down.

Try Tousley Ford, as they are also cheaper than many I have tried.

Hi everybody I bought my 2014 mustang gt/cs manual in april and couldn't be happier I was so excited that I didn't care that it didn't come with a navi. Then a month later it hit me I had navi envy and I saw this post a couple of months and was patiently waiting to find an OEM navi so I would start on this project. Found my navi for $800. A little nervous about this but I really want this oem navi installed. I have attached a picture of all the stuff that Im getting except the mirror. What else am I missing? Also Jim I remember you saying that 2013 2014 mustangs dont need amps to be installed. My Navi is coming out of a 2012.

As for the amp, I based that statement on yellow302 who put a nav into his 13. He said he didn't need an amp. You are about to confirm that.

It looks like you also have the Sync module. That isn't needed either, as the one in your car will work just fine.

For what you got, a pretty good deal, I would say.

 

Yeah when I saw it on ebay the guy wanted $1500. This giy was out of his mind saying that it was a $4500 value. Maybe he was right or I was wrong but there was no way I was paying that much. So low balled him 700 and then he countered with 800 plus shipping and paypal fees. It was a deal after that. Great I'm glad I wont need much parts. Do I need that sun sensor and climate harness. It doesn't look like I'm getting that. Hopefully I dont have to install that amp that looks like a pain in the ***. I wonder where the 2013 amp are located. Also when I read your install sticky why did you have to rip open the dash where the airbags are and the door sills. Shouldnt the center console and radio console be the only thing taken apart.

You will need the sun sensor, otherwise your auto headlights won't work. The GPS module and cable that is in your car know you can ditch.

I plan on picking up a 2013/14 wiring manual soon, so maybe I can answer where the amp is in 13/14 cars. Keep that amp as you might still need it.

I removed all the panels to the dash so that there would be less to scratch/break if I messed up pulling the dash out. Remember that the harness in the dash now is not for a nav, so you have to put in the right harness. As stated, though, you don't have to pull the dash out to swap the harness. But you would need to have elastic hands to get at all the plugs. But if you plan on getting the parts to make functioning dual zone a/c, then the dash HAS to come out.

The door sills have to be pulled in order to pull the rocker panels. The rocker panels need to be pulled in order to pull the side access panels on the dash. The side access panels need to be pulled to get at the bolts to remove the dash.

If wiring the amp, you need to run the wires under the door sills also.

You will still need the climate control harness, though, as well as a proper dash harness.

Overboost will be putting in the dual zone a/c unit. There is also another member who has been PMing me who is rounding up the parts for the dual zone a/c right now as well. So maybe we will have some more details as to what getting the functioning dual zone pretty soon as well.
