Bad news just keeps coming. Mike just texted me and said qualifying was actually over today despite what we were told and that since I red lighted both passes and missed the pass this afternoon because the car was broke we are out and won't get to compete tomorrow. I looked at the website and it shows who's qualified to run tomorrow and I'm not on it.

D*** that news is crushing, I don't know what else to say.

I'm crushed for you! I think you can take some positive away from it though; you got to get the car on the track for testing.

Can't you still race the car even though you're not in the event?

I think you did an amazing job considering the hurdles and setbacks that came along. Please keep on updating this thread. I've been a follower since your very first post and always look forward to reading about the progress of this project.

Sorry for the rollercoaster ride but the story isn't over yet. I'm getting to make a pass in the bracket class, I hope it's a clean one. I'll update later, in line now

Ok guys there was new 3.5 ecoboost record set today on the cars 3rd pass. I left on idle, no boost. My 60' was a joke and I still ran a 11.3!!! This car is a 10 second car as is, I just need to dial it in. F-ing awesome!!!

Pic now, video of the pass later. I raced in bracket, that's why his says winner. Unfortunately I hurt the motor on this pass, sounds like a timing chain or maybe a cam phaser. Oh well we were done anyway.

Congrats on the pass. Very nice, the 122.47 MPH is very impressive!

Was that a nitrous pass?

Thanks!

Yes I was spraying it. I'll upload the video as soon as the wifi starts working again at the hotel....me and YouTube always seem to have trouble.

All packed up and headed out!

Congrats on that pass! Clearly shows the car has even more potential! Hope the engine damage is minimal. Safe home!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the race, but even that one pass was fantastic! That's easily a 10 second car once you get everything dialed in and still on stock turbos. Just getting the car to put down a low 11 second pass less than a week after tuning it is a win in my book! I can't wait to see where you take this next!

Nice project! I really like what you have done and would love to do this to my own mustang. Mine has always been all show and not much go. I have been thinking about dropping a coyote into my car, but the eco idea seems to be a much better idea. I joined just because of this build

I have been deep into mustang forums since the 05 came out. This is the best Mustang thread I have ever read. Congrats on doing the undo able and building it to even greater heights as you went. Most guys are happy just to have it up and running, never mind breaking a record even in a struggling effort.

Thanks everyone!

I got back yesterday and I still feel like a zombie, that was a hard trip. I took the car by the ford dealer where I know a tech, he listened to the motor and thinks it's probably a rod, another engine builder listened to the knocking and thought it was a piston skirt. Either way bad news for the motor. Oh well, I knew this would happen I just thought it would make more than 3 passes.

Here's the plan right now
1. Livernois racing 3.5 shortblock, rated for 900hp
2. Cavalli turbos
3. Circle d torque converter
4. Rebuild the trans with stronger internals
5. Air to air intercooler to pre-cool my intake air before chilling it with the water-cooled
6. Unfortunately new rearend gears, need to swap to 3.15 or higher, 3.31 has me shifting in to 5th at the finish line. The Eco doesn't rev like a v8 so shifts are shorter.
7. Have the heads ported and polished.

S**ts about to get serious

It does suck that the engine is already shot but I did accomplish some significant goals that proved to myself and others that this project is worth perusing. If I can run 9 seconds reliably that says a lot for the ecoboost platform. 9s are fast no matter who you are

Thanks!

I'll be happy with the outcome no matter what too, I know we'll do the best we can to achieve the goal. Plus this has been a lot of fun so far and nothing will take that away. I really do have faith the car can reach in to the 9s with the 3.5 with the right setup, if it can be done we will do it
