New 2014 5.0

Hello all, I am brand new to the Mustang world so bare with me. First off I absolutely love my new coyote. Rides smooth, plenty of power, and looks great. I got some of the appearance mods out of the way when I bought it. I have a few mods I'm doing as soon as possible and had some questions on them.

1. The tuner, I still have my diablo trinity from my Challenger and was planning on using it for my 5.0, however my local performance shop says SCT is better and they make custom tunes for SCT and not diablo. Ill let the masses answer that for me. Whose got the best hand held for our cars.

2. JLT intake, pretty much sold on this one

3. Magnaflow cat back exhaust, love the way this sounds and the Roush. My only question is the piping size best for air flow, should I worry about back pressure. ( still pretty novice on things, sorry )

4. 4.10 gears, would go with 3.73 but decided 4.10 would be ok for me, I do some highway driving when I travel back home on leave but not much.

5. Suspension anything that could limit wheel hop and have sharp handling. Any suggestions will be nice.

I'd like to start with these mods, then break into some more later on. I am in the Navy and stationed in Pensacola right now. If anyone is in the area with a good exhaust I'd be down to hear it, I'm still open on which one I'll go with. Plus maybe I could learn a few things. Thanks for the replies in advance and HOOYAH FORD!!!

As far as tuners go, I think most people would agree to with the SCT tuner for the Mustang, without a doubt.
GREAT choice for the intake. JLT make killer products for sure. I was just on youtube checking their stuff out again earlier today.
As far as exhaust is concerned,.....it's always a personal preference. I have the Roush exhaust and love it. It's loud and obnoxious, like a muscle car should sound.
4.10 gears would be good. I have the 3.73 gears and they seem to be ok.
As far as getting rid of wheel hop, I would visit the suspension threads here. A lot of people upgrade and use a good panhard bar and other little goodies.
Have fun and enjoy your new stang!

Tuner choice makes little difference, all it is is a device to facilitate getting the aftermarket tune downloaded into the cars pcm. What makes the difference is the tune that you get. If you're hard pressed to use your local tuning guy and he only tunes with SCT then you have no choice but to get a new tuner.

Personally, I'd buy new tunes from someone like American Muscle for the trinity since you already have it, save yourself a pocket full of cash and get free tunes for life to boot. Plus, the trinity has a bunch of really cool features and functionality. And for the mods you are talking about doing, you really don't need a full custom tune by a local shop, won't get any more power out of it than what A/M can get you.

Intake and exhaust is really all about personal preference, most all are going to net you about the same amount.

I definitely wouldn't do the 4.10 gears. My car came with 3.73's and they are PLENTY good enough and still are reasonable on the highway.

Wheel hop elimination, pretty easy, a set of lower arms will go a long way, add an adjustable upper and be really well controlled.

If you will be going to the strip, a set of drag radials would be the next addition.

Have fun!!!

Congrats! I just picked up a 2014 Track Pack 11 days ago after not having a Stang for about 6 years. I'm loving it but I too have a few issues I'd like to address.

I've been concerned about wheel hop as well and just read this thread this thread this morning. Along with the linked thread at SVT Performance. Great information and lots of good ideas.

Good Luck!

4.10's would be major overkill. 4th gear would like top out barely over 100mph. you'd def be well into 5th gear at the track.

Wheel hop, it all depends. I don't ever get it, but that might be because i have a convertible w/ more chassis bracing.

4.10's are way overkill. Nowhere did you state if you have an auto or manual unless I missed it?

If you are in Florida And have a manual. I would go to Steeda for everything. If you are auto, I'd go with them on all but the tune.

My bad yes I have an auto I can drive manual but that was in a 97 civic hatch i didn't care for, with this I'd rather have auto and not year it up since I'm no professional, and from what I hear and researched the 6spd auto with 4.10s isn't that bad, I am in Florida yes, what's special about steeda and Florida, are they located here?

Do some more research. 4.10's are way too much gear. With 1st gear being 4.17 it's like having a 5.61 gear in the old C4 transmissions.

I agree, with 4.10's you effectively have a 5 speed again.

See my post in your other thread.

Stock 3.15 gears and a high stall converter are the thing to do.
