GT 500 axlebacks vs Roush axlebacks

Hello,

I purchased my first 5.0 Mustang GT this past week and it is time to upgrade the exhaust. I am looking to purchase either the GT 500 or the Roush axlevack systems. I did look into the Hushpower exhaust system but not sure if I will like the loudness. I would like to get a deep, nice sounding exhaust without the drone at driving speeds. I also do not want to wake up the neighbors everytime I start the car. Basically put, I want my car to sound tough but without too much racket. Would you guys recommend the GT 500s or the Roush? Hushpower maybe? Thanks guys for your advise in advance! Glad to be a first time Mustang owner. Time to have fun!

Hey man congrats on your new stang! I have had Roush Axelbacks for about a year now and can say with absolute confidence that you will not have any drone. As well...they sound incredibly wicked...I mean they are truly evil sounding! With that said, of you are looking to not **** off neighbors then you might wanna stick with GT500. The GT500s do sound really really really nice but they are not nearly as loud as the Roushs...and as with the Roushs the drone is very minimal. In the end it would if I were you I would get the Roushs ABs...the neighbors can deal with it as far as I would be concerned!

Roush! But if you're afraid to wake the neighbors, GT500. Cold start on the Roush's is pretty loud. AM has the best price for the gt500s..$265 shipped. And their shipping is super fast!

The roush are not that loud really just loud enough to please but definitely not wake the neighbor loud. Gt 500's are good but think alil to quiet. Recommend the roush! Guarantee u will love the the roush!

Just a tip.. If you're worried about the cold start up with the Roush's, a quick blip to the throttle will bring the rpm's down to idle.

And they are lighter, just not sure how much exactly.

Thanks for all the advise and comments! It appears that they are both good exhaust systems. I am leaning towards the Gt 500 axleback but a bit afraid of it being to quiet and almost the same as my stock exhaust.

If you're afraid of those reasons you're right, the GT500's aren't going to be a big difference over stock the way the Roush's are. Check the link to the 2011-2012 5.0 in my signature, to me the Roush's sound miles better than the GT500's. Different people have different tastes however, but I think the Roush axleback suits your preferences more.

I just put the gt500 on. Very happy with them so far. GT500 = +1, Roush = +2

Stangpilot,

The Roush were my first choice even before I purchased the car. I did go in youtube but every clip sounds different due to microphone and camera differences. I heard a few of the Roush clips and they appeared really loud. I like to hear my exhaust very little inside the cab. In other words no drone while at cruisin speeds. Man o man tough deciosion to make!

Anyone here have the gt500s installed and can say that they are still considerably louder than stock (in a good way of course) but not to level of loudness of roush? Now I am worried gt500s are tooooo quiet.

I agree totaly!

I've been on every forum and in my opinion the majority of people went with Roush.

I just put them on they sound great at low speeds/rpm. As soon as I'm in 6th gear on the highway its like the stock exhaust again. Driving around the city is has the aggressive rumble.

The only mods I have is a JLT cold air intake and a Boss intake manifold.

The Roush axle backs are my personal favorite for the 5.0 - you wake the car up just the right amount. We've sold a ton over the last 2 years and is by far our most popular axle back for the 5.0. It gets great reviews by our customers.
