2011 Mustang GT 5.0L Going To The Track and Dyno!
If you would have brought a 05-10 there they most likely would have ran a 14.2. So how can anyone be disappointed in this car. Lets see what Evan Smith can get out of this car to really see what it can do. Will 99% of us be able to run that time. Probably not. But at least we will know what the car can run.
You aren't kidding! I ran two weeks ago and only got a 12.622 at 120MPH on street tires. I had to basically roll out really slow and make everything up on the top end. My 60 foot was like 2.4.
Yeah just like every Camaro doesn't spank off a 12.8-13.0 every run in every town with every driver in every weather condition...neither will the Mustang.
I agree with the last few posts. Most publications take these cars and try to get as many things as possible right, as to extract the absolute maximum performance.
Think of it as the car has the potential to do these things. Using it's set up from the factory but with good weather, low altitude, warm tires, cool engine and after a few runs, then they find their sweet spot. Unlinke the test that Evo did, just BOOM, right off the highway and on to the stirp. To just take a street car and go from daily driven, street tires to track, no rest, and still run low 13's is impressive enough for me.
Not only that, but I personally would like to know how the car drove on the way too the track. Mine is going to be driven over 80 miles daily so I am more interested in the mannerisms of the vehicle as opposed to just a quick quarter mile pass. I didn't buy my 335i just because of the twin turbos...ok so that was a big factor but with the sport suspension and super interior, I feel glued to the car which feels glued to the road which inspires confidence. I like confidence.
I was excited to see the performance numbers but it was the description of how the car performed on the road that got me more into the car. If it's a quarter mile you want then there are plenty of options. If it's complaining you want to do, buy the 2010 and complain to others. Heck, buy whatever you want, I don't care and niether do any of the people here I am sure.
So, to my point, EVO, it would really be sweet if you could give some insight into the car on the way to the track and overall opinion. There are many new things about it that are enticing. Your tidbits of information just fed the monster I think. I am genuinely interested in the wheel hop problem. No review nor video show any wheel hop on the Mustang and if I remember correctly that's the one redeeming factor about the Mustang's solid axle in this car is that it's very calm and not so volitile under the gun. So this is a concerning issue. Although the track condition and other factors could have contributed. So my plea is an overall evaluation of the car before you put it in the stable to be modified. Thanks!

110 mph trap speed from the new 5.0L is great. My '07 GT automatic puts down 364 rwhp and traps 112+, so I'm thinking that 110+ out of the new 5.0L's is pretty impressive. Even the legendary 03/04 Cobras were only trapping 108-109 mph bone stock.
JLTII and Mailorder Bamachips SCT Tune (No other mods)
Stock Tires and Gears
12's on 60's from 1.85-2.01
12's on traps from 105.9-107.7
Ive lost 50 lb so my 2011 should come in at around 3775 lb. I think I should manage slightly better than 13.0...
I also think 80 bhp should be worth more than 3.5 mph even with a 75 lb weight gain.
PS This is directed at the folks making a big deal about the time not Evolution.

I pulled out of the lot, turned right on the first side street and NAILED it. Bog city. Just this dog-puke BAAAAAAAAH till it hit 6500 RPM and then it stood straight up on its back wheel. My feet came off the footpegs and I was literally being dragged behind the bike. I thought I was going to die.
I honestly felt what was like a hand on my shoulder push the front end back down and somehow I managed to pull myself back onto the seat and pull over. I shook like a leaf and smoked about 5 cigarettes before I could bring myself to try riding again.
All I could think was, "What the hell have I gotten myself into?"
That's like the day I picked up my '79 RD400F Daytona Special after having spent a couple of years tooling around on a '76 Yamaha XS360C (oh, my, how bad can it get ...). The sales dude cautioned me that it wasn't what I was used to and that this particular bike was very high strung. Did I listen?
