Could be one of the best car purchase values out there now.
Yep!!
Best truth in the thread.
Also, it's good to see the camaraderie demonstrated for all of these cars fans. The wait may suck but, it's a good place to be.

Disappointing

Sorry this is long, but kind of hard to describe the afternoon I had.
So, I asked Jeff to see if he could locate a Kona GT500 w/ glass roof. Evidently there are only 3 in the country. He found one at a dealer 5 minutes from my house.

Sounds like my lucky day right? Wrong!

That particular dealer and their sales staff are either tremendous ****** or incredibly lazy. I'm thinking that they are both.

I went to that dealership last year with a $15K downpayment in hand looking to buy a 5.0. I was there for 30 minutes looking at different cars through the windows but when I went in to the showroom they couldn't be bothered with showing me a car - really kind of weird. That afternoon I called the other dealer in town and he "really wanted my business" and was adamant that I come in and he'd get me what I wanted. By the end of that evening he had the exact car I wanted delivered to his dealership. He even stayed late so I wouldn't have to wait till the next morning to pick it up.

I went today to seriously look at the GT500. Unless it was on fire or covered in cow crap, I was going to buy it. Unfortunately I got the same reception. Five salesmen standing around BSing, one actually troubled himself to find a key and I took a look at the car, fired it up, checked under the hood and was getting ready to talk a deal.

When I asked about the Xplan, the salesman actually laughed at me and said no way does Ford have the 500 on Xplan. I asked if he would please check on it and he yelled over to the staff in the elevated desk in the showroom if Ford did an Xplan for the 500. They laughed also and without even checking answered back with some snotty answer about it not being available for the 500.

I was dumbfounded, not about the Xplan, but about the way they were treating a prospective customer. I would have continued the discussion and worked a deal with them, but figured that if they treat their customers like this, that it was probably not a good idea to buy a car from them.
I'm a 47 year old retired military officer with a 6-figure salary and a credit score that's in the upper 700,s. I pulled up the first time in an Audi TT and today I pulled up in my Kona Mustang GT. So it's not like I looked like a waste of time for a salesman.

I don't get it. Too bad, it was a really nice vehicle.

They have it listed at $59+K and Jeff said that it's been on their lot for 300 days. Go figure.

Regarding banjostang's experience, when I've had to deal with that in the past I've made a point of telling those I know or work with or are friends with what my experience was with that dealer and go out of my way to let people know that they aren't worth the business. Any thought to creating a list of these kinds of dealers that the members here have had problems with? Might help steer business to people like Jeff and Brian here who clearly want to earn the business of their customers. Just a thought.

Your post caught my interest because I picked up a '12 Kona '500 w/ glass roof November 1st. This dealer seemed to have heard of the upcoming '13 and immediately offered me the car at invoice (I'm not sure what x-plan pricing is). I thought it was an "OK" deal considering.

What you experienced is disturbing.

Well, I live in Augusta, Georgia And we have two Ford dealerships.
One is named after a famous golfer and the other is named after a part of a golf course.
Buy from the dealership named after the golfer.

Hey bud, that story just boggles my mind!!! Its dealerships and salespeople like who you dealt with today, who make it toughter for people like Brian and myself to do out jobs and have people believe we are honest!! Why that salesperson wouldn't do a VINCENT program look up on the car is beyond me!! It takes 30 FREAKING SECONDS!!! He would have seen that the car was available on X-Plan and maybe, just maybe, that would have motivated the manager to get off his a$$ and sell a car that has been there for almost a YEAR!!!

Sorry, I get really really pi$$ed at dealerships who treat people like this!! I started when I was 20, and some customers didn't think I was old enough to sell cars. That didn't get me mad. I laughed and kept working. Today, I've been here 15 years this April, and I'm always in Ford's Employee Excellence program (past 5 years). Why some salespeople are as lazy as they are is just incomprehensible!! It really irks me to no end!!

Give me a call today. I want to go over a few things with you and give you some choices. I wanna help you get your car one way or another

Is this 2500 off still applicable? Is it listed in the vincent report or as a rebate elsewhere? Does anyone have the answers?

Hey bud, I just sent you a PM. Its not a rebate, but a dealer incentive for them to use as they see fit. Personally, if the car has sat for as long as some of these have (anywhere from 150 to 320+ days), I'd use very last bit to move the car. From what I see, its good until April.

Reading between the lines, that might give us a good idea of when the '13 GT500 might be available to be ordered.

Or when they'll increase it more to get rid of the ones that are still sitting around by then.

It's possible, but at some point Ford has to turn its focus to the '13. I think the length of this incentive is an indication of that point. I think we get price info on the '13 either next week or the first week of March, order banks will likely open shortly afterward.

Possibly, but I really wouldn't plan on seeing any available till late July/August. We don't even have pricing yet and its almost March 1.

If you're talking about on the ground, that's possible. When I say available, I mean available to be ordered. That will likely happen, as I mentioned, a few weeks after pricing is released. Prices likely will be out next Monday or the following Monday. Orders will probably be taken last week of March or first week of April. That's my timeline and I'm sticking to it. Let's hope Ford decides to comply.

Reminds me in 1969 my cousin was looking at a new GT 500, inspite of how popular and valuable as they are today there were many new unsold vehicles sitting in dealers lots. If I remember correctly they rebadged some as 70's , well anyway after hageling with the dealer for months he ended up buying it for $3,995 You could buy 15 of them for the price of an 012

There are 37 2012 GT500's currently on EBAY, 36 are at dealers so if anyone is looking for a good deal on a Shelby, there is still a great selection to choose from.

It is tempting but I plan to wait for 2013, I don't want to pull up next to a 2013 later and have regrets. Of course, if they do something crazy with 2013 pricing, plans could change.

Good luck buying one from Cali. Lowest I was able to get was x-plan. Out of state they are dirt cheap. I gave up and ordered a GT. kinda a downgrade but the extra $$ will def go towards a bigger house with a nicer view

Good choice, you can always buy a 500 when the timing is better for you.

Is the $2500 factory incentive on the GT500 not available in CA?

It's not really a factory incentive per se. It's cash to dealers. Dealers out if state ( ca) pass that savings in to buyers. Dealers in SoCal are very very greedy and don't want to let their cars go without making a good amount of money on cars.

I wasted my entire weekend this past week trying to buy a Shelby under x-plan at both Tuttle click in orange county and Sunrise ford in Fontana. At Tuttle click I was on my last few signatures on the contract and I realized they were charging me 49k for a 12 Shelby with pp and recaros. We had agreed on 48 in writing. They also brought up the apr from 5.9 to 7.25. I spoke to the salesman and manager and they lied to my face saying I misunderstood them. It got so bad that my wife was out in the cold crying as I was arguin with the sales manager we wasted 2 evenings at that MFing stealership. Similar story at sunrise, We agreed in a price over the phone, I came in and they retracted the agreement. In the end I gave up and ordered the GT...
