+1. The LS platform engines are great. Only wish the lifters weren't under the heads. 200k+ mile engines.

LSA doesn't used forged pistons. People have pushed the LSA to surprisingly high power levels on the stock short-block anyway, but I wouldn't be comfortable running the same amount of boost on that engine as I would on the new GT500 short-block which does use forged pistons.

LSA uses a cast hypereutectic piston. Not forged.

Its not worth an 8k premium on a chassis thats approaching ten years in age especially when you consider the magnetorheological damper system is more advanced than the Bilstiens fitted to the 2013 PP car and if you want to get into niggling details, the lack of an IRS.

As for stout engine architectures, the ZL-1 just lacks the GT500's forged pistons. So win for the GT500 there but still not worth paying an extra 1,000 dollars per piston.

If the GT500 is coming in at a base of 63k Ford is essentially charging a 8k premium for a car that doesn't come with the longevity enhancing features that are regular equipment on the ZL-1 and if you want them that premium is going to go up.

Sorry guys I love Mustangs and I really love GT500s but if the 2013 starts at nearly 63k (63k would be accpetable for a fully loaded coupe with every option box checked off) that should be throwing up a serious red flag as to where the Mustang and the GT500 are heading in the future and what Ford really thinks about the current owners of both cars and thats to say that Ford apparently doesn't have a problem handing the keys to Chevrolet when it comes to affordable V8 RWD performance cars.

I don't think that the pistons will be an issue. And the rotating assembly is really built well. Only downfall will be valve train. Very weak valve train components on them.

non-forged.

Plus the nav and glass roof are $4k options by themselves. pretty significant when comparing price

Neither of these cars are affordable. Maybe the Boss would fit that category. We are entering an area I would call sub-supercar. Not full fledged by any means, but bordering on it.

I'm sure that Chevy will screw up the ZL-1. But if they don't even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. I dont trust them as far as I can throw them.

bob you're already arguing price, and nothing has been released yet lol. We'll resume this when the numbers come out

Smile

1am thinking the base 2013 GT500 will be priced closer to $ 50000 than $60000.

650hp+slicks+glass roof? Just don't look up.

I hope that the ZL1 is a formidable opponent. I really like the rivalry. The LS motor WILL hold up. Can't wait to see the heads up comparison. Standing 1/4 might shock the hell out of some of you.

No offense. Just really don't care for any of the Shelby trimmings. The only thing I like are the seats and the engine.

It's nothing against you. I just don't care for it. Think of it as saving weight.
