I think it is absurd to think the 2013 GT500 will be priced out of reach of GT500 owners. Ford has bumped up the horesepower ot the GT500 before and has not dramatically raised the price . In order for Ford to encourage previous GT500 owners to trade in their cars, Ford has increased the horsepower of the GT500. The 2013 GT500 horsepower increase was to be expected to encourage owners to trade in their GT500 Mustangs and convince people on the fence like me to make the move to buy a new GT500. Ford has said nothing about making the 2013 GT500 in very limited numbers. I would expect Ford to produce about the same number of GT500 Mustangs per year as they have done for the prvious years.

As long as I can get into a convertible + SVTPP + Track package + Electronics package + Recaro's for under $70K. If it's more than that, I'll have to consider a '12.

I think they have to price it reasonably close to the ZL1. Ford wants to win the performance war against the ZL1 but they have to also keep the car out of Vette price territory or they risk direct comparison to the Vette.

Chevy will be " more bang for your buck" and ford will be a better car, it was like that wilth the ford GT and vette, it will be like that again with the gt500 vs zl1.

Thats been GM's strategy with the Camaro, you get a pretty comprehinsively equipped car for a middle of the road price compared to the Mustang which might have a cheaper entry price but optioned out is more expensive.

because it has MORE options. Camaro doesn't even have a NAV display option, or glass roof, etc...

Depending on Fords Pricing strategy you might be right. However, if Ford can get it around the same price with at least the Performance Pack the ZL1 doesn't have a chance.

BTW I've heard now 62,900 as the starting price for the base 2013 GT500. If so (meaning I have no actual idea what the starting price will be)still way to much for what your getting in comparison to the ZL-1
IMO at nearly 63k the only option for the GT500 should be the glass roof (and I say that because putting somethin so heavy up high isn't exactly good for performance and should be an option).

How do you figure? Those LSx engines have proven over and over again to be very strong and capable of building lots of power reliably. Is there something about the engine in this Camaro that I'm not aware of that is different?

Camaro ZL1 pricing breaks down as follows
MSRP: $54,095.00
Delivery: $900.00
GGT: $1300.00 (manual transmission)
As such a base ZL1 with the manual tranny is going to set you back $56,295.00. The auto adds another $1,300.00 worth of GGT plus the $1,185.00 GM asks for the auto trans which makes that car a $58,788.00 package with no other options
I will be very surprised if a base GT500 packs on over 10k worth of sticker in the transition from 2012 to 2013 specs since, truth be told, the base 2013 model isn't hugely different from the 2012 fundamentally. Yeah they punched out the block, switched to a new blower, tweaked the suspension and gears and added larger front brakes but none of those changes is a major, reinvented the wheel type of the change. The 2011 changes were arguably just as sweeping and didn't cause nearly that kind of price hike.
Personally I expect a base model GT500 to be a fair bit less than a base ZL1 and a GT500 loaded with every performance option and Recaro seats to be just a bit more than the ZL1. That is, of course, just a guess.

At this point, no one probably knows what the 2013 GT500 will cost. The base 2013 GT500 may only be 1000 dollars more than a base 2012. That would be a real hoot ! ! !
