Question

I dont get why people have to compare the GT500 to the vette. The vette is much lighter than the GT500 . The vette is designed to perform well on a road coarse as a sports car. The Mustang GT500 is a sporty sedan that performs like a sportscar dispite the heavier weight. However, to expect the GT500 to perform better than a car that is much lighter and has almost as much horespower is expecting to much.

The 2013 GT500 has the HP/LBS ratio for it, but alot depends on gearing, areo, and traction.

The Z06 has the aero and traction advantage, its a slicker car and its f/r weight ratio is better balanced plus it as access to sticker tires.

The 2013 GT500 gets a 3.31 final drive compared to the Z06's 3.42 final drive and I think the Z06 has a 2.66 first gear.

Hero runs on a stock Z06 have also cracked the 10 second zone and they trap around 120-123 mph.

So we will see...

Question

Would it be correct to assume the 2013 GT500 does not have skip shift ? I have not seen mention of skip shift.

It probably does have it. It's a feature that allowed Ford to avoid GG tax and since this 650HP beast also avoids the GG it's also probably got skip shift. It's doubtful it will ever come on when most people are driving this car.

Doubt it. The current car didn't have it. They're still using the 6060 as well. I'd hope, considering all the press about the MT82 skip shift they'd leave it off the GT500.

I am also hoping the 2013 GT500 does not have skip shift. I am just very skeptical of skip shift having a real effect on improving gas mileage.

Are you serious? It *doesn't* save gas. It helps the manufacturer get a higher rating on the US standard testing loop so you don't have to pay a gas guzzler tax. Duh?

Why is skip-shift such a big deal? Seems like we're debating trivial parts of the car when there is still a lot of info that hasn't been released yet on the '13 models.

People are arguing about tire size, skip shift and other performance parts without even knowing the full details. I'm am very excited and anxiously awaiting more details but no point in arguing the unknown.

People only pull the vette card if the camaro gets beat, that's how fanboys work.

It *doesn't* save gas.
I shift 1-3-5-6 or 2-4-6 from a rolling stop when cruising to work etc. I'd never shift 1-4 though, that's too big a step. Saves fuel? Maybe, I averaged 20.3 MPG in mixed driving which isn't bad.

5-6 LOL I've never heard from anyone getting more than 18 in a 500. If you're getting 20 you're lucky or boring. LOL

That was an example of shifting and driving for economy - it proves that one can get good mileage if needed. Got 300 miles from that tank of gas! "Normal" driving where I engage the traction control frequently while giving thrill rides to people was 18.3 MPG. BTW, the dash mileage estimate is quite accurate - most it's been off is 0.4MPG and that was on the low side, it doesn't overestimate mileage.

If you have any gt500 you can do 200mph with a few mods.

Also I think it was good for ford to ignore the ZL1 challenge it's time to look forward to those on the track ahead of you like Porsche and BMW and not look back at camaro. Besides if ford makes a mustang that does compete with z06 then any camaro is just obsolete and chevey knows that.

I just saw the cutaway pictures of the new 5.8 liter that makes 650 horespower. The SVT name is boldy cast into the top of the supercharger. It is clear to see who was responsible for designing that magnificant engine. I think I will highlight the SVT in bright red after I get my GT500. That should dress up the engine compartment.

It will be interesting to see if they have figured out a way to get the power down. I have the same (similar) TVS blower on my 07 GT500 putting down 640 rwhp and 625 rwtq at 15psi and if you roll into the throttle hard in 2nd they just go up in smoke and you bounce the rev limiter. When you get on the interstate and hammer it in 3rd you're instantly sideways, which is fun but not fast. You're really into 4th gear before you're confident it's going to hook. This is on Yokohama Advan Sports 285/40/18 which are stickier than the Goodyears.

Any word on pricing yet? A customer rattled of 80k, but that seems a bit to much for what you get with the competion at 56k
