650 horespower and 600 foot pounds of torque sure has a nice sound to it. If Ford had said the 2013 GT500 had 650 horespower and 590 foot pounds of torque, it just would not cut it. I think the power output of the GT500 will go down as numbers to be remembered for years as a most significant power output for a Ford.

I can't wait to see the impact of the revised gearing, suspension changes, and launch control, thoroughly tested by someone like Evan Smith at MM&FF.
To me, that's far more interesting than the extra horsepower. I'm a little bummed that they kept the 285's in the back, but we'll see how it works.
I remember when Motor Trend tested the 2010 GT500 against the 2010 Super Snake 750. Despite having 210 hp more than the regular GT500, it had an identical 0-60 time and was only 4 tenths and 4 mph faster in the 1/4. Let's hope we don't see a repeat of that. I hope the Ford engineers really nailed the "putting the power down" part this time, we'll see.

Has Ford announced the tire sizes for the 2013 GT500 with the PP package ? Do we really know for sure Ford has made their final determination as to what tire they will be using on the GT500 ? I would think the tire size could change at anytime before production starts.

I wonder if the 13 gt500 will be able to take on a Z06 Vette? If it doesnt then I say give up on Ford or should i say Ford has no brains. 650hp vs 505np..The video of the SuperSnake vs the Vette and GT-R makes me sick,,,That car had 750hp but could not hook up..Do it right or dont do it!!

I think what Ford should do with this new 650HP 5.8 is build a true sports car for it to compete against the ZR1 and Viper, How about a next gen Ford GT?

There's more to a car than a drag race. Ford has proven this again with the Boss 302 and even with the SVT PP equipped GT500. The Corvette has a lot of resources in its favor, and GM likes to showcase that car in a variety of settings. Again, the primary competitor is going to be the Camaro. If it's able to hold its own against them, then it's an added bonus.

For me, it's not stock tires for drag racing but more stock tires for spirited driving. 500+ hp supercharged just won't have traction with the 285 street tires. A friend of mine's 11 GT500 will break the tires loose at just about any speed until about 80mph.

So does my '12 and so does my Kenne Bell Cougar unless I leave drag radials on it full-time. I guess Ford could add another 300 lbs to slow it down and apply more weight to the tires, just like the Camaro.

I dont think ford would put those tires on the car if the new suspension, handling and transmission bits werent able to effectivley apply that power to the road. My opinon is that ford finally realized a ton of horsepower is no good without traction and that a fast car is nothing without handling/control. Im trying to understand all the fuss about the tires, if the engineers were smart enough to upgrade everything else i would think*hope* they would know what tire to choose, either way im gettting a 13 GT500.
