Trouble Starting
Hey everyone! Ok heres the thing now thats it's gotten cold here in good ol' NJ my Stang has trouble starting. I turn the ignition and the car shakes pretty bad and by then I usually stop trying and wait a few seconds and try again. It always starts on the second try but this is a little alarming. I always have over a half tank of gas so it can't be a fuel problem, at least I don't think it would be.
another strange thing is when I first drive in the morning the first time I put the car into drive the car seems to hesitate to move for about 2 seconds and then jerks foward. Can someone help me out here? Anyone else with these problems?

Before I put mine away I noticed the the startup was not as pretty as when the weather was warm.
I am not sure when you are moving away in your car, but is it still in fast idle mode?
If anything, take it to the dealer and maybe they have an updated for the computer.

Yeah goes to the dealer Monday night for a Tuesday morning test by them, did it again today. It's starting to freak me out new cars should not have a problem especially new cars that are no more then 4 months old
Our 06 v6 has had a couple starts that weren't pretty.
Both times it was < 30f.. I turned the key, and it fired up, but idles at 500rpms or less (rought) for < 2 seconds, then the high idle kicked in.. and smoothed out..
It did it twice (only had a few days < 30F)..
When we take the car in for its 7000 mile oil change I'll have them look into it then (along with the list of little things I have for them to do).

No problems on my end. Started fine during cold days and the little snow storm we had on Fri. I have 05 manual though. Is this problem related to autos? If it shakes violently before starting, then taking o daler and leave it overnight, so they can start it cold in the morning. Spark plugs maybe? (that would be odd on a new car though).

Hang on to that dream
New cars will not have a problem after your have made several trips to the dealer to get all of the problems fixed
Anyway, just how bad is this shake at startup? Would it rattle someones dentures loose or do you just feel a bit of a vibration. So you start it, it shakes, you turn it off and then start it again and it doesn't shake. Almost sounds like the oil is too thick and has not lubricated all of the parts fast enough, but by the time you turn it off and back on, they are already primed. If the car is not actually shaking and it is just a rattling noise you hear, it could be a hydraulic tensioner. That is the problem my car had and you would only experience it when it was cold and the car had sat for several hours before starting it. Once you started it, the problem could not be reproduced until the next morning.
Mine starts up just fine, Idles about 1300 rpm for a couple of minutes or so then slowly back down to about 800 rpm after 1-2 miles. That was last week at 6 degrees F. I have a manual 5-speed.
On our bad startups days, the 2nd one started at 500rpms.. and shook.. after 1 to 2 seconds.. the rpms came up to 1800 or so.. I wasn't excatly playing attention the first time it did it...
I wouldn't expect this to be normal.. Unless they set the computer to try to be extra smart.. and keep the rpms very low when really cold, then bring them up to high idle (so your not at high idle at low oil pressure).. I wouldn't put it past them.. they have the rpms climbing to over 1500 rpms when the car is in motion and the transmission in neutral.. (really anoying).

Well I ended up not taking it to the dealer, found out something interesting though. When I go to start the car if I turn the key to give the car power(but not turn the engine on) and I let the fuel guage rise a little and then try and start it I starts no problem. What I was doing was getting in the car and instantly turning the key to start it. Don't know why this helped or maybe I have been doing something wrong. What do you think?
electrical fuel pump related issues? just a speculation that might be waaay off, as I am not a mechanic. Did you have at least 1/2 tank of gas at the time you had the problem? I know this rule of having 1/2 tank in cold weather isn't required for current cars, but who knows...
