Question 2008 v6 drivers side rear axle replacement getting stuck; Need help

Hello,

This is my first post here so I'll try to be as concise as possible. I purchased a 2008 mustang with rear quarter collision, which damaged the drivers side rim, drivers side rear axle shaft was bent, and track bar was bent.

I am currently in the process of replacing the axle shaft, I ended up purchasing an American muscle product as it was the cheapest option with decent reviews, and am running into an issue. I have already replaced the wheel bearing and seal, pressed the studs into the axle shaft and am at the point of installation. This is the first time I've replaced an axle, and when inside of the differential, the axle shaft goes about halfway into the side gear and then gets stuck.

If I have the spider gears in place, rotating the axle will just rotate the differential assembly, and I am not able to push it further into that gear, and have to use a pry bar to get it back out.

If I have the spider gears removed, I am able to fully push the axle into the differential, however it pops that side gear out of the place it sits. I am aware of the washer that sits on it, and made sure that those two stay together, after which I tried sliding that gear onto the axle shaft inside the differential, which I am easily able to do, but then I am not able to reseat that gear back into the hole it sits at.

I am possibly worried that maybe that side gear was bent during the accident? the splines on the new axle and the side gear are not damaged, or maybe I'm simply making a mistake. I am aware and made sure when purchasing the axle that I got the 28 spline, rear driver axle, so there should be no reason it doesn't fit.

Thank you in advance for anyone that is able to give me advice.

Welcome,

Gave You An Avatar Upgrade!

Downloaded Some Shop Manual PDF'S For You. Sorry Ford Does Not Make it Easy and I Had To Do Section By Section. Maybe Some Overlap in Texts. Start At The Bottom of PDF'S & Work Your Way Up. I Went Ahead & Simply Pulled All the 7.5 Diff Info Just to Be Sure You Got What You Needed.

Have You Set Axles Side By Side & Checked Lengths & Counted Splines Just to Be Sure????

Parts Can Be Mispackaged and Even Not Machined Correctly.

Also Previous Owner May Have Made Changes To Rear Axle. Does The Axle Have a Metal Tag Attached To it With ID Numbers???

Are There Any Numbers Etched into RING GEAR. Please Advise as it May Shed Light on If Any Changes Were Made.

Some Pics of Repair Area's Such Axle Comparison And Shots Of Ring Gear & Carrier May Be Helpful.

Is This The Axle Kit You Bought????

Drivers Side is Shorter of The 2 Axles as Shown in Rockauto Listings. As an FYI
