It probably does say BOSS on the engine cover? But so what? That motor will NOT be in a Mustang. Why? Its WAY TOO HEAVY!!! Ford has already stated it. Why would they put in a 6.2L heavy motor, that makes 400+hp, when they are making a 5.0L motor, that weights a good amount less, that makes 400+ hp?

The large displacement engines were initally going to be called "Hurricane", but after Katrina, they thought better, and changed it to BOSS instead. While they cancelled the 5.8L, they kept the 6.2L for certain truck applications.

History of that motor is so crazy. Started out as a pushrod motor in 5.8 and 6.2 displacements, named Hurricane. Cancelled. Restarted, switched to OHC, and 5.8, 6.2, and 7.0 displacements. Named changed to Boss. 5.8 cancelled, 7.0 up in the air, 6.2 ready for production. Boss named dropped.

Back in August, my source told me that the 5.0 is scheduled for February 2010 (2011MY).
Ford is working on a new SE as well. But, as of August it was behind schedule and it won't be ready until 2011MY.
I was also told back in August that the rumored "SVO Type" GDI 4 banger Mustang SE will not be ready until 2012MY at the earliest. The GDI 4 banger is behind schedule and will be in other models first.

If there's one thing that I absolutely hate about the S197 Mustang, its the fact that the mufflers are out back like the Japanese cars.... but thankfully we can "fix" that with a set of Boomtubes or Loudmouths! But I really wish they would have designed the chassis for a mid muffler system that is SUPPOSED to be on a Mustang!

Dude, the Mufflers Being Out Back Has Nothing to Do With "Japanese Cars" My 64 and 66 Thunderbird's Had them in the Same Place, So did my 89 Supercoupe, and My 97 T-Bird as well. It's all about packaging, and since Ford moved the Gas Tank From being Mounted Under the Trunk like the Fox Body, Further Forward and Below the Back Seat for Safety and Crash Standards, there is No Room for Mufflers Under There Any More.

Hey, I wouldn't be laughing (referring to the lol comment). You don't want either GM or Chrysler to go under. If one did, you and every other America will feel the ramificantions HARD! And if you haven't read any of the reports, Ford is in the best stance of the 3 auto makers. Relax, they are fine for a while.

BTW: Whatever happened to the Don Bowles/Jack Roush "777" 7-liter V8 derived (I guess) from the 6.2L truck version of the Hurricane/Boss/EcoBoost/Coyote/Whatever V8??? It ran at various dragstrips, turning low 9s in the 140s naturally aspirated, but blew when they went dipping into the 8s. I've heard nothing since.
Did Ford pull the plug on the effort? Was Don Bowles abducted by aliens? Did Jack Roush use the "777" to replace the Rolls Royce Merlin in his personal P-51B? Did John McCain say "I have the '777' right where I want it"? Did Jay Leno buy up all existing 777s and park them in Hangar 51? Is Steve Saleen secretly developing it for use in an S7 replacement? Does Carroll Shelby have it in his personal GR-1 concept? Is it providing electricity for the City of Cleveland? Did it have Bigfoot's baby?

Now There Is a Place The Mufflers Are SUPPOSED To Be Just Cause It's a Mustang Too? Jeeezzz!

1- All V8 Mustangs since the beginning had the mufflers mid-chassis mounted. In fact, almost every musclecar/pony car since the beginning has had mid-mounted mufflers. So yes, that's the way it should be based upon how it's always been. I don't give a crap about Thunderbirds as they are not musclecars/pony cars.
2- Rear mounted mufflers are very common on Japanese cars and have been for quite some time now. So it makes perfect sense to draw a parallel between the muffler location of the S197 and Japanese cars
3- Packaging smackaging.... rear mounted mufflers are the primary reason that it is so hard to get that classis Mustang exhaust sound out of the S197 Mustang. Every Mustang GT from 1982 and on has had a very similar and distinctive exhaust sound that was basically lost on the S197. It's just a shame that they designed it that way, not to mention the way it looks. When we look at the back of a Mustang, we should see the end of two pipes, not the back of two mufflers.

You misread what he said. You said the mufflers in the rear was a Japanese thing and he responded that a '66 Thunderbird has them there. Obviously the Thunderbird isn't Japanese, which is the point he was making. He never said the Thunderbird was a muscle car/pony car.

my guess is they developed it to be superior to the LS line of engines in mind. with the OHC and more valves per cylinder in the future, it will be a better motor than the 6.2 or the 7.0 LS

Th C-3 Corvette isn't Japanese, and it's a bit more muscle-car than the Mustangs of the time. While it's not a pony car, Corvettes are still ranked with Muscle cars. It had very visible mufflers under the rear bumper.
