So what were your top reasons for picking the Mustang? Did you even cross-shop the competition?

I have always liked Mustangs and Fords in general but I am a Mopar guy at heart but I have no specific loyalty to any brand or model.

I have my reasons... but I'd love to hear what you guys think..

Always loved mustangs, and when this motor came out I didn't even think twice about any other car. This was the car for me, and it hasn't let me down yet.

When I was 15 and I saw my first 1999 mustang I fell in love. I've wanted to get something with less mods for awhile now, the 5.0 came out it was a no brainer.

I have always wanted a Mustang. Never a fan of the fox body, I kind of got out of them during that time frame, just wanting an 66 or 69 Mustang.

Then the 2005+ came along, was interested back into it, then came back from Iraq in 2007, and been saving ever since and finally got me one in March 2010.

I like the Challenger, but not enough to buy one before a Mustang.

I actually traded a 2006 Mustang GT in for a Challenger R/T in Dec 2008. I had had the Mustang for 3 years, had done everything to it, and wanted something new. I really like the looks of the Challenger so I got one. The car was great and I enjoyed owning it. But a week and a half ago I found out the Ford Canada was offering the 2010 Shelby's for Employee Pricing (under A Plan) so I made a deal for one and am now the proud owner of a 2010 Shelby Coupe in Graber Blue. Other then the Challenger I have onwed only Ford and Lincoln vehicles since 2000 so I consider myself a Ford Guy. My DD is a Lincoln MKS so I never really left the fold for good

Back in 06, I was deciding between a Mustang GT and the recently released Charger. All things being equal, the Mustang GT was about 5k cheaper (and I couldn't get the Charger in a 2 dr). I bought the Mustang. It was the BEST car I have ever owned in a long line of cars...been driving since 75 and have owned various cars since then, starting with a 64 AMC Rambler lol ...

Anyway, once the new motor came out, it was a no brainer. And the updated interior is a definite plus. So, long story short, I did cross shop with my first Mustang, but now it will be Mustang until the end. This one should be paid for just before the 50th Anniversary Edition is released...guess what I'll be shopping then .

Over the past 50 years I've owned a lot of Mustangs, but I did cross shop the G37 and IS350. Didn't cross shop any of the other competitors because my car HAD to be a convertible.

The 5.0 beat the limited competition hands down.

Price/Performance Ratio

I've owned a G35 Sport and loved it but had to get rid of it. When I got back in the market for a new performance related car, I looked at the G37, the BMW 135, and the BMW 335. BMW M3 wasn't in my price range. All three of these cars were more expensive than the Mustang and much poorer performers. Having never owned an American car, I had some concerns about interior fit and finish and reliability, but a test drive and some online research persuaded me that those concerns were dated. I was sold. Mustang's quality and performance can't be beat for under 50K.

As for the Challanger and the Camaro, I think they still live in the "muscle cars can't turn" era to a certain extent, so they weren't really on the table for me.

The Genesis coupe was in the picture but I couldn't sit in it without hitting my head (I'm 6'5") so out it went.

All 3 of my cars have been mustangs... At 17 had a V6 05, then at 19 jumped in to the 08 GT and now at 21 got my 11 5.0. I work hard so that i can ejoy a good car.

Great prices and a good amount of power and just all around fantastic car.

Its hands down one of the best cars in its genre of cars and its just going to keep getting better and better.

^ you sound like me lol

first car at 16 1/2 was a black 05 V6, modded that and quickly realized i wanted a GT. 17 1/2 I got my vortech supercharged 05 GT. At 19 I realized I was having too many problems with the GT so I sold it and got my Roush Nitemare F-150. Now I wanna get back into a mustang lol so im looking to get into a 2011 5.0.

I work hard from 7:30 a.m. to 6 sometimes even later so that I can have fun driving what I want to drive.

I've been hankering for a Mustang ever since I got my driver's license in 1987 and was enamored with the Fox-bodied Mustangs that had just gotten a great styling upgrade that year, but other things always got in the way. Either I didn't have enough money (which is why my first car after leaving home was a used Neon), I inherited cars from my parents and in-laws so I didn't see the need to spend, or we had little kids so a Mustang was impractical. I also went through a period where I was worried about our oil resources, so I've been driving a Prius the last few years.

Now I've got the money, and our kids are a bit older, though not grown up yet, gas prices aren't through the roof (at least not for now) and I feel like it's time for me to have some fun. I've been working my tail off for years, so I deserve something for myself. And as for Camaro/Challenger, I never even considered. The Mustang is the original pony car, and since 2005 it's had the classic look that I love from the 60s. Yes - so do the Challenger and Camaro, but I never loved those designs the way I loved the Mustang's, for some reason. I'm just ready to be driving! It can't come soon enough.

Thats cool man. You should DEF look into the 5.0. I love mine, there's no comparrison when it comes to my old GT. Go for a test drive and you'll take that baby home with you!

My first car I actually bought that wasn't a hand me down was a 95 firebird. I liked how it looked, but it sure had its share of problems. I didn't like how Mustangs looked at the time (the 96-98 models). When the next model came out, I finally got a 2000 model when the 05 just came out. It was is great condition and the previous owner had done quite a few mods, nothing extreme. I had a lot of fun with that car and that's when I started to fall in love with Mustangs. I finally got what was my dream car at the time, a 05 mustang GT in 07. The 5.0 is making me itch, but I almost have this one paid off.

My last new (4th) Mustang was a 1986. With children and going through a few marriages i had to have no less than a 5 seater. After my last divorce a few years ago and my children grown and own their own, i could start looking for a smaller size car. In 2007 i bought a new Dodge Caliber, nice size for me and my dog Chico. I thought i would save up for a new 2014 Mustang because i had heard it was going to be 'all new'. I really liked the 2010 refreshed body style but the engines and transmissions were (sorry to say) outdated. I started reading about Mustangs on the internet and found this (TMS) forum. Then people started talking about the 2011 Mustangs. The more i heard about the Lincoln V-6 replacing the old V-6 the more i wanted to find out about it. I have to say, "I'm very happy with my (5th new Mustang) 2011 V-6 Mustang".

Camaro = too expensive
Challenger = too heavy
Genesis = not enough performance, even the 3.8
G37 = too expensive
370z = almost bought one, but so glad I didn't.

I never considered the Mustang until I heard about the new v-8 model. Once I heard about the 32v 5.0L v-8 I was sold. It still surprises me that I ordered one w/o test driving one first, but it was the right decision. Once the test results and videos came out I was salivating. It is the best car I have owned and I am really proud of Ford for building a great car.
