What would the 2010 have to have for you to buy/trade up???

Especially for the 05-09 owners, what would the 2010/11 have to have to make it tempting enough to buy or trade up to?

What if it has IRS and a 6 speed but the old 4.6 at 325hp???

What if it does get a 400hp 5.0 but isn't as attractive as the current model and still no IRS/6speed???

What if it lost a hundred pounds, looked great, but still had the same powertrain???

With all the rumours flying about, I was just wondering which suspected upgrades are the ones that will have people making a trip to the dealer in 2010/11

Well, we largely know what the 2011 is and isn't getting.

No IRS

The GT will have a 400hp+ 5.0L V8 with a six speed

The base car will have a 265hp+ V6 (AFAIK no rumors thus far on V6 tranny choices)

Throw in better seats, seriously improved brakes, a suspension as well sorted as the one in the current Bullitt, and I would love to have one of each.

ps: Some room for wheels wider than ten inches would be nice too.

I would love to see a twin turbo V6 special edition, IRS, better seats as mentioned above, an upgraded suspension, and a six speed just to name a few. But will it happen, probably not.

In addition to the 400HP 5.0 4v. and hips. The 2010-11 must also have a full/true fastback ala 67-68, before I'd even consider trading in my current 05 GT.

However we already know that Ford is carrying over the current greenhouse, so it appears that I'll be keeping my 05 until at least 2014, or whenever the Mustang goes into production on the all new GRWD platform.

At least 400hp and a price tag under $30k.

Not happening. As has been discussed a million times in these forums, the greenhouse ( roof, windshield, side, and rear window ) are the same as today's Mustang. Changing the greenhouse requires structural changes and a re-crash certification, which means a whole new car.

I need an exterior that looks more different than another special edition on the same sheetmetal ( i.e. GT/CS, Bullitt etc. ) I need an interior w/ a signifcant upgrade in material quality. I hate that the current Mustang, while a nice design, has been manufactured by Rubbermaid ( though the real aluminum is a nice touch vs. other cars painted silver plastic. )

It sound as if the six speed and 5.0L are coming in 2011, but I think the real question is do you want a 2010 GT w/ 300 hp or a 2011 GT w/ 400 hp, or if the 2011 V6 is close HP to the 2010 GT, but gets better gas mileage...... I mean in realistic driving, do you really need more than 300HP? ( I know I'll get slammed, but its true. ) I'd rather have low end torque for the feel of power, vs. an extra 100HP I can't control through the live axle w/o an expensive suspension package to control it.....( and lower insurance. )

First of all, I'm very well aware of this topic being discussed a million times in these forums. As a matter of fact, I was involved in many of these discussions long before you ever became a member of this website. Therefore the last thing I need, is to be lectured by a Newbie such as yourself.

That being said, if your so offended that I brought this topic up again, then just don't bother submitting a reply. It's really just that simple.

In addition, if you had also bothered to read over my entire post. You would've noticed that I clearly stated, the 2010-11 will NOT feature a full/true fastback !

IRS and a Dashboard that isn't all hard plastic!
I could deal with 325hp if the car were lighter. Then it'd handle better too! And get less-bad gas mileage!

I want paint that won't chip as easily!

If the paint can't be improved, each car should come with a can of paint that is filled at the same time your car is being sprayed for a perfect match!!

I could care less about an IRS. I think my solid axle in my '00 GT is just fine for what I do. For me to part with my baby, the 2010 has to be affordable, have a 400hp 5.0 and a 6-speed.

It needs to be upgraded in every way- just to compete with the Challenger and the Camaro. If Ford doesn't do that I will be trading UP and getting a Challenger.

For me it would have to look a whole lot better than what the spy photos are showing. The ONLY good thing about the styling of the 2010 is the addition of hips.

Also, a lighter weight, sleeker looking car (similar to the size of the 65/66) would be a HUGE improvement over the current model.

Same here, I really like the Challengers look as well. If they can just offer some kind of aftermarket steering wheel for that to replace the standard LX fair I'm solid.

While I bought a new Mustang in 2000, 2003, and 2007 and work at a Ford dealership so it's easy to buy a new one frequently, I believe I'll be keeping my 2007 GT Coupe for the long haul. Why? Ford hit a home run with the 2005 body style and 300hp is plenty for the average enthusiast. My car currently makes about 450hp (at the crank) with a mild Vortech supercharger. I've got too much invested in this car now to justify trading it away, and I can't afford two musclecars in the driveway.

I can't imagine the 2010-11 being so significantly better than my '07 to make me trade it in. Of course, I said that about the 2005 when I owned my '03 Mach 1. Guess we'll just have to wait and see in about a year.

400hp NA, less than 200 lbs weight gain over current model (I'm being realistic.)

Everything else could be the same, I could care less.

Nicer interior, DI 3.5 or 5.0, new bodywork has to be better looking than current bodywork.

Seriously, the only reservations I had about the new Mustang in '05 were the interior and the upright grillwork. All else was great out of the box. I've gotten used to the interior and the front on my '06 GT, and I absolutely love the car.

But I want the glass roof! Almost held off on the '06 to get an '09 with the glass, but when the black ice grabbed my '02, I had to have something quick. Also want to see the new bodywork in the clear, first. That will tell whether I go for an '09 glass roof or wait for an '11 with the glass AND a next-gen powertrain.
