The Wait is OVER! The 2010 Mustang GT contest WINNER
Kory, congratulations and thank you for your service to our country, as well. I truly hope you'll be able to time away from your duties to go to the LA show to claim your prize. This is so cool that you've won!!!

Hmmmm...
I like the idea of naming it. Maybe I should have a thread to give ideas to name the Mustang. That would be cool! What do you guys think? I'll start a poll with some option that you all give and you guys can pick you favs.

This is such bull****. I bet you only won because Fords P.R. department could have a field day with you. You only won because you volunteered for a job that you are getting paid for.
If you were so obcessed with them. How come you have never owned one, despite how cheap they are?
Its ridiculous how people think they deserve things because they volunteered to do it for money.

Ohhh...good one! I'll add that to my list for a poll!
congratulations
I read thru the stories, and there were some really good ones, personally I think it would be cool for Ford to 'pull an Oprah' and just give everybody one, but thats not gonna happen...folks may feel PR reasons behind it but so what- It would still be good PR for an American made product that went to someone that will truly appreciate it, and I think the overseas serviceman coming home to his new ford dreamcar is a great story- kinda like the commercial from a while back, who so many thought was great, where the Dad with a blue '69 gave his returning son a new red one...quite a few folks had said things to me about that commercial...musta got a dozen forwarded emails with links to it on youtube...
personally, the commercials with the father/son doing burnouts in the parkinglot, and the one with the cops in the shelby though were my favorites...the shelby one had to be both the coolest/funniest commercial Ive ever, ever seen...the advertising guys that came up with that one should win a short film award or something
Anyway, I think the story and the whole thing will be good for the Mustang, and in the end, thats why Ford did it, right? And if its good for the Mustang, its good for all us Mustang fans too in a way...I just hope Ford survives and our kids can have a cool/affordable Mustang model in their future, any and everything that helps ford promote that is great in my book...I love our mustangs, but even moreso worry our kids wont have the 'option' of ever having such a fun new car to dream about 10~20 years down the road...look around, its 1972 all over again- gas going up, car plants dropping like flies, horsepower becoming secondary to MPG (or perception of anyway- my wifes 07 v6 auto and my 06 gt stick both get about the same mpg?), lots of questionmarks about the future of the 'musclecar' that everyone thought died in the early seventies, and made a suprising comeback in the last decade above and beyond the originals...
one thing if I may suggest- I'm sure a lot of folks will be sharing their thoughts, and your head is kinda still spinning... but if you get to speak out about the 'prize' to the press, gotta get out the message about the 'dream factor' that these cars had to so many of us as kids- something with the cool 'distinctly American' 90 degree V8 sound, the cool American styling, the fact Ford has managed to keep the basic models in v6 or v8 still priced where a working guy might actually be able to afford it, the way they have that 'make you want to buy the tee shirt' factor that is lacking from 99.9% of the commodity cars on the market...yeah, folks dream about Lamborghini Murcielagos too, but they know it aint gonna happen- the Mustang is a car that is not absurdly out of reach for most folks, and of all the things going bad for Ford right now, I just pray in another 40 years there will still be young kids that say 'I want to get one of those when I grow up', thats its still built here, and that the V8 sound option will never go away...think about that- right now its not really looking good for Ford...any and everything that gets the Mustang in the press is a great thing- and I think your contest entry did/will have the 'most impact' in that regard- so thanks, congrats, have a safe trip home!
PS: smoke the tires driving it away- or let your Dad! that would be waaay cool!

Ya know...
I was thinking. I need help finding some information out. I read in one of my many Mustang books one time a while back about a contest that Ford sponsored in 1964 to give away a Ford Mustang. IIRC, an Airforce Pilot by the name of Dan C. won the Mustang and he was awarded serial number 0001. Again, IIRC, a few years later Ford wanted their car back so they could put it in their museum and they traced Dan Airforce Pilot guy down in Canada or something like that. They offered him any Mustang he wanted with any options he wanted brand new no cost. He gave back his Mustang 0001 and ordered a 1967 390 Fastback, I'm wanting to say in famous Wimbledon White.
Anyone else know anything about this? The reason I ask is because to my knowledge, which could be totally wrong, this is only the second time Ford has officially sponsored a Mustang contest to give away a new Mustang trying to promote the brand.
It would be pretty cool it if was. I might have a chance to be in Mustang history books like Mr Dan Airforce guy.
edit: changed serial number 0002 to 0001 after reading http://media.ford.com/article_displa...ticle_id=17987

Wow dude. Ford4V429. That was an awesome post. You must have been typing that the same time I was typing my first one. Good stuff. I agree with 100% of it. And no doubt, I will do my best to stess the Mustang brand and the icon it has become to so many people and dreamers. I will be writing stuff on the plane trip home to the States and then to LA. I'm going to use every second I get to push Mustang as far as it will go. I don't want to see this piece of history die any more than any other lover does.

Ah HA! I need to shake the sand outta me ears I think. That's it! Good find Brad. That was quick too. It must be almost midnight over there and yet you still jumoed right on top of that.
I'm quite off too. I must be getting stories crossed in my head or something. I was on the right track though! It's all coming back now. I wonder how many others knew about that?

Name? "Perfect 10"
I mean, it's screamin' at ya, isn't it?
BTW, florida has 7 letters, so that'd be PRFCT 10, which is taken, but PERFCT X isn't, so you can get that.
Also, the earlier suggestion of 'Lady Luck?'. LADYLUK, LADYLUC, LDYLUCK, LDYLUC, LDYLUK are all taken... I dunno what you'd have to do to make that work... maybe LUKYLDY or LKYLADY or LKYLDY... but those are gone too. Sounds like a buncha lottery winning wimmens over there...
Now, if you had other suggestions/ideas, here ya go... go nutz!
https://www6.hsmv.state.fl.us/mvchec...check/main.jsp
Hope I helped... if you're gonna stay/register it in FL, of course, Kory.
Maybe you'll get the stars in yer eyes and stay in Cali. In which case... here:
https://vrir.dmv.ca.gov/ipp2/welcome.do (this is a little screwy... Hit 'Order Personalized', then select a plate type, then enter the letters... if it's available, you can order it then (with the right info), if it's not, THEN it will say.
For example, PROWLIN isn't available, and it said so. PERFCT X is, so you can have that, I let ya.
/Nobody be stealin' it, k? He should get first crack at it.
//Unlessin' you gonna gift it to him... apparently you can do it in Cali. Pretty sweet, actually.

Sweet Dude! Thanks for the link. I'll be registering it in FL, my home of record. That way, if I PCS, I won't have to change registrations! BUT, I'm still deciding on where to take delivery and "pay" for it. If it's in TN, where Ft Campbell is, then there is no sales tax for military personnel. However, if it's in FL at the Daytona International Auto Mall, the largest dealership in SE USA, then there could be lots of cool things going on there too!? Dunno, still thinking about it.
What would you guys do?
What would you guys do?
