It does everything with bluetooth, internet and things like that, which i don't use. wifi isn't talked about anywhere in the owners manual
.
It says it uses bluetooth to connect to headsets or car kits, for handsfree calls.

yeah I hope that isn't really true . . .
For my connection problem, it turned out I just needed to keep trying. It says "could not connect, would you like to try again" YES . . . "could not connect, would you like to try again? YES . . . Do that about 17 or maybe 35 times and it finally works. Go figure. I did turn off the Wi-Fi but I don't think that was the issue.

it prevents calls from being dropped that way.. esp in the case of 911 assist..
its a safety feature in SYNC..im not sure if its the phone or sync that prevents the pairing..
David .. what kind of phone do you have? most newer phones have wi-fi, not all, but usually speaking if you can get internet on it 90% of the time the phone has wi-fi capability

No. So far i have to delete the phone from the Mustang. Turn off my phone and remove the battery. Then it will SYNC and work perfect after starting from scratch to add the phone to my Mustang then after a few start and stops (short drives) it will say 'no paired phone'

if you have ro reset the phone in order for it to work/pair up..
what kind of phone is it?
check your phones blue tooth.. see if it shows paired not connected when the car is turned off.. if the phone bluetooth doesnt say sync as one of your paired devices then the issues is with the phones bluetooth not remembering its paired connections..
also do a full system reset in the car (which i know you already did) with resetting the phone ( ie pulling the battery).. if you have nav screen its in the seettings screen
the only thing i can think of is something is corrupting the bluetooth.
