SYNC keeps dropping my phone.

For seven or so months my phone has been working perfect. A couple months ago i would get 'phone not paired' after a few engine starts. No big deal because a month later i was getting a new phone and figured it would clear up. It didn't with the new phone . I've tried everything...Pulled fuse #3..... Turned off 911 asssist....No download of phone book.....Down load of the phone book......Making the phone my favorite...Not making the phone my favorite.....remove battery in my phone to re-set it.......Turning off the bluetooth on my phone and re-do the SYNC......I did a live 'Chat' on the SYNC website and the guy told me to take it to the dealer.

Has anyone else had problems like this and what was the fix?

I haven't had that problem but I am about ready to throw my new Blackberry Torch out the window . . . For some reason I cannot get it to pair with sync at all . . . I go through the whole procedure just fine, but when I enter the code that sync provides the phone says "could not connect to sync, would you like to try again?" and no matter how many times I try again, it does the same thing. Sometimes it does not even wait long enough for me to punch in the whole code before it fails.

I called AT&T (where I got the bb) and they say they cannot help me because sync is a third-party system; but it does not seem like a problem with sync to me, it seems that the sync side is working fine.

There are a few things mentioned in your post that I haven't tried yet . . . but the stupid thing really ticks me off, these technolgy gadgets are supposed to save us time, not soak up our time troubleshooting them.

I had a similar problem when I got the iPhone 4. I had the iPhone 3gs and never had a problem. Got the iPhone 4 and it would drop the connection before I got to end of my street or a few minutes after starting the car. It would connect fine but then something would happen. There was no warning so I wouldn't know it was disconnected until the phone rang.

To be fair, a software update (to the phone) could have fixed the problem but I ended up returning the iPhone 4 and going back to the 3gs. There were other reasons I just didn't like it but the SYNC issue definitely helped me decide. I connected the iPhone 3gs back up and the problem went away. Now I've had an android since November and haven't had any problems with it either.

I would try syncing another phone. It may not be SYNC that's having a problem.
Good luck.

As I work at a Ford dealer, I sell plenty of vehicles with SYNC. We hook up our customers' phone with SYNC when they take delivery. Droids and Blackberrys are the toughest phones to get paired up in my experience - often taking 5 or 6 tries to get them paired up. I've only had one customer's phone not work with SYNC at all, but I paired up my own phone with his car just fine. I went to the Microsoft/SYNC website and the customer's phone wasn't listed on their supported phones list. Often times, new software updates from the phone's manufacturer or the cell provided are needed to get a particular phone to pair up - especially if it had been working and suddendly stops working with SYNC. Hope this helps!

Ok.. as far as the phones "dropping" SHUT OF YOUR WI-FI prior to getting in the car..

i have to do that with my HTC EVO otherwise it will drop at the end of the street (out of my wifi signal)

as far as pairing them.. i had no issues pairing multiple phones to my car.. right now there are 4 phones paired and others have been deleted..
BB's,I-phones,droids, and a few others i cant thing of.. including MP3 players..

i usually have device scan for SYNC.. and works first shot.

Is there a trick to the Blackberry Torch? When I try to pair it up everything seems to be working fine until I get to the part where sync provides the code and I plug it in to the phone, then it says "could not connect" or something like that. I have tried many times with the same result; sometimes it doesn't even wait for me to type in the whole code before it fails.

I do have Wi-Fi turned on in the phone; but I have tried to pair it at home in my driveway (where it will be seeing the Wi-Fi signal from my house) and also in the parking lot at work (where it probably doesn't see any Wi-Fi) and it doesn't seem to make any difference, I'll try turning it off next time.

You have to do that every time? I would feel like killing someone, If I had to do that every time I got in my car.

yeah I hope that isn't really true . . .

For my connection problem, it turned out I just needed to keep trying. It says "could not connect, would you like to try again" YES . . . "could not connect, would you like to try again? YES . . . Do that about 17 or maybe 35 times and it finally works. Go figure. I did turn off the Wi-Fi but I don't think that was the issue.

I had a big problem with my phone staying paired up with sync & sometimes would not connect at all.Was driving me nuts!Since the phone was a little old anyway I went to buy a new phone.

When I went to buy a new phone I asked the woman at the counter if they heard of this problem before & she HOOKED me up.

Turned out it was the sim card in the phone she said it was a common issue.

Bought a new phone anyway! She somehow transferred all my info to a new sim card & BEHOLD no more problems!Works perfect now every time.

Hope this will help someone else!

You have to type in the code very quickly then hit the pair button (or OK or enter, depending on the phone). Sometimes it takes many tries to get it to pair. Wish I knew a quicker way.

^^^^ EXACTLY what he said.

My phone would always sync when I started the car, but by the time I left my garage and drove to the end of the block it would always say "phone disconnected." It was starting to really **** me off. I'd say 6 out of 10 times this would happen.

Then I started to turn off my WiFi to save battery life. Lo and behold = the dropping problem with my car stopped. Now when I get in the car and have my WiFi off, it's perfect every single time.

So, if i turn off the 'Bluetooth' on my cell phone every time i leave my car, It should start working right and not any more 'no paired phone'?

Dave I think he said turn off the "WiFi" on your phone before you turn on your car. That's what works in my car w/ an HTC EVO.

Also, no big deal if you forget. As soon as it disconnects hit the "phone" button on the radio, then hit "settings", hit your phone name, then hit connect and you should be good.

You don't need to start the whole pairing process again...

I had a Sony Z310. For the last couple month with it, the dropped calls started. I now have a Motorola Tundra. I don't use the internet or text on my phones, only for talking. I have a laptop and a pc for that
