I personally think that the 2010 hydraulic power steering is a tad better than the EPAS (which I have now)...

a little teaser for you

The 4.6 is a great engine and the 2010 Gt is awesome but it fails in comparison to the 2012 5.0. The 5.0 will have far more potential and can reach 450 rwhp N/A, bolt on mods. The 4.6 will never reach that power N/A and the block on factory internals are good for 450 to 500 rwhp tops. Any higher power, forging the engine needs to be done.

The 4.6 and 3.7 engine are in a similar category for power and potential. OP, get the 5.0 if you can afford it because its the 5.0 which a 2010 is not!

My Trinity is having Coyotes for breakfast... Just saying
In the end it is a trade off between the additional power and a new car payment, or no payment and some mods to get closer to 400hp.

Bert's decision.....

Either way he can have a nice car for the track.

My 3.7 could have Coyotes for breakfast too if I boost like you did. Thsts until I meet a boosted 5.0. Lol. With that said, the 5.0 will have more potential and a higher resell value than a 4.6. Wink wink.

What power is your 4.6 making boosted?

My Trinity (5.8) is making 662hp stock. The engine is good for about 800rwhp. I only added the FRPP 65mm CJ Throttle body so far as mods go.

I am not scared about boosted coyotes.

It seems the Coyote is the power benchmark for all forms of power.

Wait, I'm confused, I thought you had a 4.6 engine with your 10 Gt? I thought we were talking about the 2010 Gt or upgrade to the 5.0. Of course you having the 5.8 engine is completely different and would eat coyote's for breakfast. Different animal

Yeah, I realized that now. Lol. You did an engine swap which that's certainly an option. I have no idea on the cost of a 5.8 swap from a 4.6. If Bert does not want to do a complete engine swap, he would be better off stepping up to the 5.0.

Well, that's true. Its a solid engine that one can easily make 450 rwhp with bolt on mods, and 625 rwhp boosted with factory internals. Not sure how much power the coyote block can handle with forged internals but it's far superior to the 4.6 engine.

The 10 Gt 4.6 engine and the 3.7 are in the same boat. Very similar power from factory and boosted the same power as well. A full bolt on 5.0 will keep with a boosted 10 Gt, 4.6 all day long. Go for the 5.0

Well, that didn't exactly turn out the way I had hoped, LOL!

Just for the record, I would not even consider the 3.7 as an alternative to the 4.6; yeah on paper the peak HP is similar but that's about where the similarities end.

I still love my 2010.

If I owned a 2010 GT I certainly wouldn't trade that in for a Mustang with the 3.7 engine either. That would be silly considering you're not getting any additional power. The two cars are on a very similar performance level so to do that you wouldn't be moving up you would be moving laterally and on a different platform with the same power potential.

If I were to get rid of my 3.7 I wouldn't buy a 2010 Gt so I completely understand where your coming from. How important is it to you to own a 5.0?

Buy a used corvette man. You'll make more power with less money. LS engines are so cheap to mod and make so much power.

I'm going to disagree with that. With bolt-ons I will agree the most you can make is probably around 350-360 and with cams and what not 400-410. Hell German Sheppard was making 42X with his N/A 3V and spyder was making 421 with the MAF pegged and race transmission and 4.30 gears IIRC but his trap speeds were indicating he was in the 450+ range with his N/A 3V. The 3V is a very very very capable motor, it just takes the right person to unleash it. MattD was running 11.0 with his 3V Spyder was running mid 10's with his N/A Mo Makki is running sub 8 seconds with his, Justin Burcham was running 8.2's or 8.02's with his, Chevy Killer was running 8's with his setup as well.

I like the 3.7 and I think CFM was claiming the 3.7 record at 10.7 on a factory engine but Limitless I'm sure could destroy that number but I have never been able to see their times as I think they are mostly grudge racing or street racing. From what I have been hearing the blocks are pretty strong and will handle some abuse like the 4.6 blocks before failing which is more than you can say for the 5.0's which is a cool thing. That being said, I wouldn't say that it is in the same category as far as power potential unless you are looking for a decent amount of power. Outside of that, in my opinion the 3V is just the better engine in terms of power potential.

In terms of the Mustang world I would say that it is one of the tops, but not THE bench mark.

^^ This.

And this from sqidd on supercharging:

So Bert, go add some N/A power to your existing 2010GT (like the FRPP Intake, the 62mm TB and then maybe heads and cams later down the road, a nice set of Kooks LT's with the green catted h/x pipe and you should be very competitive)...

I'm not an expert on the 2010 Gt's 4.6 engine but 350-360 rwhp with bolt ons seems way too high.

The 3V is better in terms of its block. In fact any 4.6's block is far stronger than the 5.0 block is. Up until a few years ago John Mihovetz was still using factory 4.6 blocks on his cars. Koenigsegg was using the 4.6 Teksid blocks on his car because they could handle something like 1500 HP with out issue. The 5.0 block on the other hand ..... not so much. In that regards the 3V is better than the 5.0 that's for sure.

I have seen a few of them running that high on E85.

You might be the only person I have heard on these mustang forums to say the 3V block is a better platform over the 5.0. Very interesting!
