New Motor Trend 3-way comparison is up...
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/index.html
This time they pitted the SRT8 against the SS and new 5.0...
Numbers are slightly different for all cars compared to the last SS vs. R/T vs. 4.6L Track Pack test.
Pretty good read with the editors picking our hero as their preference.

Pretty much what we expected all along.
CONCLUSIONS?
The galloping-away winner this time out is the Ford Mustang GT. It's simply the one pony car most of us covet, and it's the one that hews closest to the original concept of a lightweight (they weren't called draft-horse cars, after all), nimble body and chassis choc-full-o' V-8 muscle. You can see out of it, you get a nice view of the hood and the driving line you're trying to trace, and the engine sounds better than the radio.
The lengthy and impassioned argument over which car would finish second is what really ran up the post-dinner bar tab. The proletarian staffers found the Challenger SRT8's sticker too shocking and argued fervently for the Transformers-yellow Camaro SS, while the Jack Daniels Single Barrel swilling patricians dismissed the gauche, faddish Camaro with its overwrought controls in favor of the refined, mellow, mellifluous Dodge. (Plus it finished higher in more of our individual contests.) So when the buzzer sounded (last call), the scoreboard indicated that more staffers would prefer to own the Challenger, even if it meant downgrading to blended whiskeys and Swisher Sweets to save the extra $10 large. And so, until Chevy or Dodge tweaks a substantial engine, chassis, or body part, the Ford Mustang GT is the reigning V-8 Ponycar champion of the universe. See you next season.

I have to read the article again, couldn't help but skip ahead to the conclusion. Man, the wait for my GT/CS is driving me crazy, I ordered on FEB2 and still no VIN. At least all is right in the world, Mustang's back on top and we didn't even have to call in big bro GT500 for backup.

Hah! If HP/cost were no factor, they should have made it "fair" to the Ford camp too - why not pit the 2011 GT500 vs 2010 SS vs 2010 SRT8? It would only be fair to test only the best available Pony car from each manufacturer right? Kind of surprised to see the results of the Mustang's fuel use though - was hoping for better lead-footed real world numbers. Oh well that's not really important in this segment.
Proves the other two still have some catching up to do in the Pony car game.

Takes more fuel at speed for the smaller 5.0 motor to make the power but I was surprised the 5.0 was that far behind, maybe those guys zinged it harder just to hear it roar.
Put the other two cars on a diet and the contest would be about a dead heat.
As far as which cars to use in the test, I think this was the closest to fair looking at it from a HP to weight ratio stand point.

Sounds about right.
All 3 cars where tested at the same time.
Quarter mile
Camaro SS
13.1 sec @ 110.8 mph
Challenger SRT-8
13.3 sec @ 106.1 mph
Mustang GT
12.7 sec @ 111.3

I guess they have decided that it's a pony car because the challenger of old was when clearly it's not. The real hilarity of this article is the mustang is the only pony car in it. So of course it's the reigning champ.
comparo is null and void as far as I'm concerned

Truth be told, I still think the Challenger is the best looking of the bunch. If it wasn't such a pig I would've bought one instead of my '08. However, the SRT8 is a ringer, it really should be compared to its counterpart, the GT500. That's a bloodbath so I understand throwing it in with a GT and SS. Good article overall, 4 tenths is a pretty substantial margin. I'm impressed. If I didn't have so much $ invested in my '08 the 5.0 would be bullseye on my radar screen.

Maybe Ford really did set their goal higher than good ole' Camaro, there was a rumor that 2011 Gt's were track testing with M3's.

"This V-8 burbles in a slightly higher register than the other two, but on the boil it mimics the soundtrack to Frank Bullitt's car exactly." "An engine note worthy of conversion to a ring tone." "The Mustang feels like a real car -- mature, adult, grown up, but still fun and sexy." "Snickety gearbox -- is this a Honda?! Love the positive action and short throws." "Very nice. Lots of stick, well-balanced grip. Just world's more fun than the similarly fast but far more massive Chevy."

Look at the curb weight comparisons on the last page of the article....shows the Camaro about 250 lbs heavier than the Mustang....I thought the difference in weight would have been greater....hmmm I guess every bit helps.
