MSD coil on plug any benifits ?
I have a 2010 gt cammed lowered and new flow master axel backs. Whe the cars at a idol you can smell excess fuel like its running rich. Would the MSD helps and what would be the gains if any?

Did you not have the ECM re calibrated? On a multi point injected engine, it's an absolute necessity. If you have a bigger cam it will open the valves longer and the computer won't register this. It MUST be calibrated for this change. New car tech tips 101.

First, that's what cams do. Been around any lopers back in the day? The overlap works to increase power at high rpm's, but overlap at idle means raw air fuel mix is going out the exhaust.
Second, VCT may minimize that somewhat - unless you used lockouts.

I bout the car second hand with the mods already done. the ford motor tech said the ecm had bee re-tuned. they looked it over good and said whoever did the work did a great job. the car is bad a** a runs like a champ,very fast. just wondering if these coils are worth the money?

pls excuse the typo's. I've been around alot of lopers growing up i remember the smell of the excess fuel. just looking to add a little more hp thinking this might help. i wanna keep it a N/A besides it is 4.6

The factory coils on a 4.6L 3V generate 20K volts and are more than enough for any N/A application. They become a weak link with a supercharger, though, when the cylinder pressure is so high that the spark is actually blown out and the car misfires a bit. That's when you either gap down your spark plugs and/or install higher voltage coils. But, again, N/A motors don't even come close to maxxing out the factory coils, so you can use that money on something else (like a proper tune).

Thanks. So to upgrade would be wasteing money? it has been tuned but not sure if it was a custom tune. i was thinking these coils would help burn the fuel more

That said, my supercharged '07 GT maxxed out the factory coils (I had spark blowout) so I went with GMS 45K volt coils and that cured the spark blowout. Car went quicker down the 1/4 mile and made more power on the dyno, as well. On the flip side, aftermarket coils tend to fail much more frequently than the OEM's. I had two of the GMS's burn out within a year (covered by their lifetime warranty, though). I've read in the forums about many other users having aftermarket coils fail often, so I wasn't alone.

Thanks for the advice.. Please excuse the questions but I've always been a gm person this is my first mustang. As I stated earlier I bought the car with the cam already installed. Would it be possible to get a custom tune without knowing anything about the cam?

If you're after a custom tune, the person/company who is building the tune for you will want to know all modifications that have been made to the engine. They should ask; if they don't, then provide them. Better yet, hang up and call the next.
