How much engine oil should I add

Quick question: how much oil to add to raise the level from just below the lower hole in the dipstick to just a little bit above it.

because if remember correctly from the manual it is acceptable for the oil level to fall to just at that lower hole mark?

background of my situation: 2012 mustang GT bought last april with 250 miles. During the cool weather the engine oil dipstick indicates normal level, well above the lower hole. Fast forward to the start of the hot summer with now 5000 miles the oil appears to be just below the lower hole in the dipstick.

It is difficult to tell exactly where the exact oil level is but during the first couple of months it was very clear to see that at the very least the oil level was at the lower level. The lower hole even had some trapped oil in it.

Well now I am assuming it is directly below that lower hole, it is just hard to tell. .

The top and the bottom holes are exactly 1 quart apart. So if it is just below the lower hole, add a whole quart, and it should be just below the upper hole afterwards.

It is sometimes difficult to see the oil on the crosshatched area between the holes, but you can tell when the oil drops below a hole, because there will be no oil in

Manual says:
If the oil level is between the lower and upper holes, the oil level
is acceptable.
DO NOT ADD OIL.

If the oil level is below the lower hole, add enough oil to raise the
level within the lower and upper holes.

Oil levels above the upper hole may cause engine damage. Some oil

must be removed from the engine by an authorized dealer.

Keep the level between the holes and you will be fine.

At least it's being checked to ask the question. That's a good thing!

Hmm, anyone know which brand of oil they use from the factory?

I usually don't like mixing different oil brand/type... I always buy a few more to be able to fill-up when needed. I didn't find that info in the owner's guide, only which type to use in the future.

Edit: Finally found it:

-Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil (US)
-Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (US)
-Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Super Premium Motor Oil (Canada)
-Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil (Canada)

Owners Manual Says:

To protect your engine and engine’s warranty, use Motorcraft
SAE 5W-20 or an equivalent SAE 5W-20 oil meeting Ford specification
WSS-M2C930-A.

SAE 5W-20 oil provides optimum fuel economy and
durability performance meeting all requirements for your
vehicle’s engine.

Refer to Maintenance product specifications and
capacities
later in this chapter for more information.
