Wow, some of you guys really need to lighten up. Jap is short for Japanese....doesn't make it a racial slur. Jew is short for Jewish, but I don't hear people complaining about that.

I think calling someone a Ricer is more derogatory than calling someone a Jap. But neither one is offensive to me (no, I'm not Asian) at all, just like someone calling a white person a cracker.

I agree that 'jap' is pretty offensive to any reasonable person. Jews call themselves Jews and always have as far as I know. I never heard a Japanese person refer to themselves as a Jap.
