Meanwhile, I have one potential outright buyer to whom I relayed this entire episode and he is still interested in the car (it's still under warranty after all)! So today we are going to drive the 35 minutes to the dealer in my Toyota (haven't picked up my Mustang yet, wasn't going to), and he will test drive my 'vert and see what he thinks. If he decides he would like to buy it, he's agreed to drive it back to my house, where we will work out the transaction details. But if he decides to decline, I plan to just get my personal effects out of the 'vert and leave it at the dealer for good. I already have my VIN for the 2012 6AT I've ordered, so I'm plenty psyched about that!
Just curious, why are you trading in a 2011 for a 2012?

Wow guys, thanks for covering for me while I was away. Yeah, what they said is basically correct. I have bad knee cartilage so I was already borderline on the 6MT, and then in Feb broke a bone in my left foot and have been in a cast/immobilized since then, with no end in sight until August, as my leg atrophies away until then. I just wasn't sure how long/if ever til I'd be able to operate my 6MT pain-free.

Plus (and this is another long story) I would rather have a coupe than my 'vert.

So I took the plunge. And yes I wanted the garage door opener.

ALSO - I now have a buyer for my 'vert! We met @ my house, drove to the dealer in my Toyota, & the service advisor explained everything to him including the clutch warranty (it's only 12K/1 year on the wearable clutch component, but is full 5yr/60k for any mechanical issue, like, say loose pressure plate bolts), so he was great with that, and of course loved driving it (was 75 and sunny today!). So he is getting a great deal, and I'm getting a little more than dealer trade value. It's a Win-Win baby!

Yes ford knows the problem but the dealers don't.Here is what I know for sure the whine in the trans was coming from my steeda shifter, with stock shifter no noise at all, plus after about 50 miles steeda shifter would get stiff. My pressure plate bolts came lose because they used red gasket sealant rather than red loctite ,I should have taken pictures Also rear polly control arms make all kinds of noise. I put my car back stock was going to trade it, but it is a good car now.So I'll keep it

Did you factor in the tax savings when you trade-in on a new car? Here in OH a $30K trade-in saves you about $2,000 in tax. Food for thought . . .

Well, after 1900 miles, my MT has been having the clunky/short grind when shifting on occation from 1-2 and from 2-3. Took it to the dealer this morning and they performed the fluid change. We'll see if it helps. Also, I've heard a lot of people say that the fluid change caused gear whine, but everything I've seen has been second hand info? Is there anyone who has done the fluid change and then experienced whine? Don't want second hand info, but straight from the source.

When a gt costs ya 30k already what's a couple extra grand. 4 more payments, big deal
Ha - if only life was that simple. First you ask the consumer to swallow that extra $2k and when that doesn't work you'll have the manufacturer swallow that pill? Maybe in the ideal market but here in the real world another $2k can cost you 5,000 sales to Hyundai Genesis coupes or Camaros or GTIs. The consumer is free to think 'well, their transmissions don't suck'.

Truth of the matter is, I didn't really notice an issue until I started reading these posts. A perfect, smooth shifting tranny would be nice but for a $35k car it isn't as notchy as a $40k G35 sedan was.

+1. I wish I haven't read any of these **** threads. I wouldn't have noticed anything if I wasn't looking. It's starting to sound like a broken record everywhere with everything.

Yes... The whining started about 500 miles after the fluid swap.

The NHTSA has begun contacting owners of MT82 equipped cars which is the first step in beginning a defect investigation. Historically, Ford responds to these types of vehicle problems after being forced by the NHTSA so the 53 reports are, indeed, setting alarms off. For anyone experiencing shifting issues with their 2011/2012 Mustangs with manual transmissions, please take just a few minutes to file an online complaint with the NHTSA at the following link:

FILE AN ONLINE VEHICLE COMPLAINT

Thanks everyone!

2011 builds of mustang.

26,422.

54 self involved internet links.

to those that have real issues as jmatero has. i hope it is fixed. but to the other 40. karma is a *****.

an online complaint should be a serious issue, not just notchy shifting as you promote.

btw, class action! wow, i predicted that like 3 months ago.

beers

Well, after a few days post fluid swap under the belt, it appears to have worked. Haven't had a single grind/clunk yet. In my research, it appears that the main difference is the weight of the two fluids, which makes sense if the tolerances in the MT82 are as tight as I've heard. Now, as long as I don't get any whine, I'll be happy as my dealer did a great job of taking care of it.

I know I've said this in other threads but the MT82 gets a lot of bad press (on this site) I figured I'd share how good mine has been (for the 125 miles I have had the car lol).

It shifts like butter, so smooth and so easy to shift. I love it!!!

You think it's bad here. Look over at www.allfordwhiners.com and read the transmission thread. Matero is leading a crusade over there. He is kind of like Jim Jones at Jonestown. He will have his followers drinking Koolaid or waiting for the comet before long.

Anyway...I have two cars and both of them are fantastic....
