Here's how easy it would be to give the 2010 350HP
Well I guess I'm the other guy besides whammer who is getting some heat for my opinions of the car. I'm not trying to annoy or bother people but I'm speaking my mind. It seems many of you use the "***** envy" or "HP number doesn't matter" but this is a performance car, this is what it is supposed to do! What baffles me is that Ford couldn't get the new 5.0 and 3.5 into the Mustang on time! The 5.0 should have been a top priority for Ford considering that the Mustang is not only a popular model but also the flagship of the company. The Mustang looking bad makes all of Ford look bad in my opinion. Why is the new 10' Fusion getting the new 3.5, and 6 speed trannys while the performance model Mustang gets carry over stuff?
I agree with some of the others that the 10' Mustang is going to have a tough road ahead of it as far as sales go. Hear me out before you dismiss me here.
OK, very important is the fact that the Mustang has two very similar domestic rivals that offer much more power and tech like IRS and 6 speeds. Not only will Ford have to compete with domestics but also a surprising number of powerful RWD Japanese coupes entering the market. While the Camaro and Challenger are all new, the 10' Mustang is not a huge departure from the 05-09 model. Maybe it's just my personal opinion but It seems the majority of us on the forums "like" the new Mustang but are not "star struck" by it like we were with the 05' model. I showed several people pics of the new car and I got to say a whopping majority liked the current model more, hope my sample is wrong for Ford's sake.
In conclusion don't let my opinions keep you from buying this car. Even if some feel it is less attractive that the current car it is without a doubt a better overall car. The point I am trying to make is that Ford may have lost Mustang fans like me that want a comparable car. I may wait for 11' or just purchase a used GT500 (which Ford already made money on). Perhaps we make up a small percentage of Mustang sales but guys like me are the ones who pay extra money for higher content cars like the Cobra or Mach1 models....... just my .02

the car will be over to pick you up in 15 minutes. Quick...REACT...NOWWW!!!
or
Start working on your 'x' project, you have 12 months to complete it.
9 months in... guess what... project X doesn't satisy our needs as a company, you are now working on Project 'Y' and have to get it out at the same deadline. What are you going to do?
The 2010 car was already locked design wise and had a roadmap of where it was going.
**** happens, and plans change, Ford reacted.
Sorry it wasn't released to your satisfation

Now, the 3.5 is obviously a victim of the 5.0L's Job1 date.
It wouldn't be right (obviously) for Ford to release a 250+ v6 into the mix, when a 315hp GT is their base V8 with nothing but a GT500 above it.
QUICK... your going to a secluded place in Europe for 10 months, take everything you need,
the car will be over to pick you up in 15 minutes. Quick...REACT...NOWWW!!!

I'm not saying I wouldn't have wanted the 5.0 in launch year either...
but I understand why it can't be that way, and we have to wait.
Very easy for anyone to say 'they shoulda or coulda, but just didn't'
Believe me, I'm sure FORD would have liked to get it out as well.

I disagree given the product mix. I think Ford had an opportunity to steal some sales from the competition with the 3.5. It's too bad they couldn't have launched it with the 2010.
Just like in life, it always easier to point fingers and place blame.
I'm thinking that I'm not the only one seeing 315HP as a deal breaker. It's too bad too because I like a lot of the new stuff but the 315HP should have been a mid-life power upgrade to the current gen 05-09 GT. I wonder if it at least has better MPG than the 09'?
I hope we see some info on the new GT500 ASAP, I hope it is something special and not just carryover stuff like the GT and base model.

I couldn't agree more, the base model should be a decent car. Even the import V6s are going to kick the V6 Stang's tail for 2010! Those Nissans, Hondas and Toyotas are pushing about 270HP!

In the meantime, GM will only continue to bump up their HP. Just in order to stay ahead of Ford anyhow.
So the question, is what are you going to do everytime this takes place ? Switch back and forth from Ford over to GM, or which ever car has the most HP at the time

As I mentioned before, this is the reason as to why Ford doesn't get all hung up on who has the most HP numbers, but instead has much rather placed it's values upon designing the best overall/practical pony car.
That being said, why don't you just either wait for the 2011 to come out, or as you also mentioned before. Get a low mileage used 05-09 GT500. This way, all you need to do for keeping up with the competition, is simply modify your car. Problem solved.
At any rate, seems like a no brainier to me

I don't see any reason to get hung up on the 2010 Mustang having 315hp.
Yeah, 315hp is a dealbreaker for me too!
I don't care. I'm getting 400hp a year later. Why do you care?

I'll be satisfied regardless of what the competition has.
I just want a high tech, high revving v8. That's all. Everything else be damned.
My argument: Who cares who's faster? I will take a low end Lamborghini Gallardo over a 9 second SRT4 Neon any day. In the end, if you want your car to be faster, it doesn't matter what you drive. You can make it faster than the competition. The only thing you can't really upgrade is the class/elegance/style of the car you bought.
Buy the car you fall in love with. If you think it's slow, make it faster. End of story. Ears closed. La-la-la - My ears are closed.

AS you know the Mustang has been the only game in town for the last 7 or so years so now the game has changed. I consider the Camaro a major player. Lets see what happens now that they have some competition. I expect sales to tank. I want to be wrong believe me but what Ford is putting out now a days engine wise in Mustangs and F150's leave a lot to be desired. Ford is going to have to sell price for 2010. Just my opinion of course but I would not even consider one right now. They are a non factor to me. I can live without a lot of things but being over 100 hp behind is not one of them.
Okay, so let's just say if the 400HP 5.0 had been ready for the 2010. Do you really think that for one moment, GM is just going to sit back and allow Ford to catch up with them ? Well you know full well that GM will never allow that to happen.

If rumors are correct Ford's 5.0 is supposed to have 400HP/390TQ....... still short of the Camaro's 422HP but it would at least be comparable. I would not bother me having a Mustang with 20-30 less HP than the competition but coming up with 315HP is like getting into a gunfight with a knife!

It's not the fact that the Camaro has more power, but over 100HP! That is nuts! I don't think that comparable Camaro/Mustang models ever has that huge of a gap in power! I'm sorry, but I think you guys are just defending a weak product. I do like the look of the car, not as much as the 05' but a nice change.

However you know as well as I do, that when the 400HP 5.0L arrives next year. GM is just going to turn around, and bump up the Camaro, right back towards 100 more HP anyhow. Or at the very least, 50 more HP.
So again, where does the cycle finally come to an end

I would rather ford stay in business and never produce another mustang ( chevy and dodge as well) than them to go out of business
oh and im pretty sure car mags dont test modded cars, so thats why we need to hp bump hell i'd be happy with 315 hp if it weighed like 3000 lbs or less
