Here's how easy it would be to give the 2010 350HP

Ford blew it big time on the 2010.
The Mustang is going to get killed street light to street light by Camaro's and Challengers.
Ford could've easily got 350HP from the 4.6.
The Shelby GT is putting out 320HP, so that's easy to achieve and then adding in some Ford Hot Rod Cams would give it an extra 30HP.
So there's your 350 horses.
I'd prefer that to dual climate control ANY DAY!

We'll see what the sales figures have to say about that.

Or you could just wait until MY 2011 and drive a GT 'Stang with 400 hp.

I agree with Whammer. In both 99' and 05' we were given much larger bumps in power. Think about it in 05' Ford have the GT a 40HP bump and the SVT got a whopping 110HP bump in power! Back in 05' Ford had no real competition, now Ford has known for a very long time about the Camaro and Challenger and the likely motors they would possess. Why on earth would Ford allow themselves to let the 10' Mustang be so outmatched in power.... giving up over 100HP to the Camaro?!? I have to say that 110HP is worth the couple extra grand you'd pay a premium for the Chevy! The way things are looking in the auto industry the 5.0 may never happen!

If this 11' 5.0 does give us a genuine 400HP, then I'd have to say that Ford dealers are going to have a hard time selling their 10' GTs sitting on their lots.

I disagree.

Remember, we're all "in the know," more or less. You have to look at this from the viewpoint of the average consumer. Those who haven't been seeing, hearing or reading about every single minute detail of the 2010 for... hell, I can't even remember how long. I think the refreshed design is more than capable of making up for the lack of additional horsepower for one short model year. At least.

No worries here.

Exactly! We may never see the 400HP in 2011 the way things are going for the American auto makers.

As for the 2010- Ford basically has only 6 months to sell that car, because once it hits mid model year and people start learning what the powertrain is for the 2011's sales will grind to a halt.
2011 'may' have 400hp GT and a V6 that outperforms the 2010 GT.

Only for 6 months and then people will start to hear about the new powertrains for 2011. And you are forgetting about competition- there are two very strong competitors now. So that average Joe and Jill who doesn't follow this stuff like we do is going to see the power AND options that the Camaro and Challenger have and now that the GT's price tag is close to them- well I'm betting Ford takes a huge hit.

That's a possibility. But I still say WE DON'T KNOW THE OFFICIAL PRICE TAG YET.

...or the official weight....
... or the official price....
......or the official performance...

Ford didn't drop the ball.
The car is going to sell, and WILL OUTPERFORM THE PREVIOUS YEAR, but just because we want more HP doesn't mean it sucks...

If it comes with 315 and the Camaro with 422 it sucks....
if it comes with 350 and the camaro with 450 ... it sucks...
if it came with 400 and the camaro with 500...it sucks....
It's pretty obvious here its not the number it comes with that some people don't like, its how it compares to competition, and they'll feel like they have a small winky and a blow to the ego if god forbid it comes out with less HP.

People will just mod it anyway.

I want a 5.0L as much as the next guy, but I have better things to complain about... and do with my time.
If you REALLY want a 400hp 5.0L ... just wait the year for it to be tested properly and release in 2010.
Its not that long, and it won't kill you.

If it's not that big of a deal why are you waiting for the 2011 GT?

Read again, I want a 5.0L as much as the next guy,
but I can wait... I don't have to have it RIGHT NOW...

I 'want' 400hp even if its slower than the Challenger and Camaro...
some people are acting like they NEED it.

OK my whole point is this in 2010, 315HP is flat out underpowered. People are sitting here defending Ford and saying who cares if the Camaro is faster bla bla bla..... well we as muscle car fans and want the faster car don't we? The Mustang is one of Ford's few dominant vehicles and they are risking losing the crown in the pony car segment.

We look to competition because it is the measuring stick of the car, and to be honest Ford should have been at an advantage and they blew it. Both the Challenger and Camaro are similarly priced to the Mustang and offer a lot of stuff the Mustang doesn't have. This isn't a matter of 15-20HP..... we are talking about a car that is mechanically inferior to it's competition for not much savings. Many, though not all who buy these cars want the performance stuff over the extra content.... like navigation or interior lighting..

To some 400+HP , IRS, 6 speeds are not a big deal but it should be when purchasing a performance car. If I wanted a nicer interior I would been buying an Audi. Just my .02

In the long run, do you think the 4.6L powered 2010's will be worth more than the 5.0 powered 2011+?

If the 4.6 kicks the bucket at the end of 2010 then yes... maybe...
if the 4.6 lives on for a couple years overlap, then no

I don't know why this is such a big deal for everyone. 315hp, 3.73 gears, and a few less pounds is going to make for a pretty quick car. The Mustang has always been the under dog in power and it has never hurt sales.

If you really care that much, spend the extra few grand and slap a SC on it. Done. Goodbye Camaro. Same price.

BTW I don't think the 350hp 4.6 crate motor is emissions legal is it???

I really dont see many new cars being worth a lot in the future like the classic cars are now, Everyone knows now that cars can sell for a ton of money so theres going to be so many jokers saving their cars and never driving them for no reason. The reason why classic cars are worth so much is because there arent many left because no one knew they would be worth so much now. A 2010 4.6 will be worth just as much as a 2011 5.0 im sure in the future. If these cars are going to be worth so much in the future then why not just buy one and never drive it and use it as a investment...probably bc thats a dumb idea.

On a diff. note, Im getting a grabber blue 2011 5-0 stang!

Ever hear of an "option" package. It would be a great idea. Challenger has the Trak Pak that gets higher gears and more HP.
Ford should've done that at the very least.
