My 2011 GT says it was produced (or started to be produced) on April 13th. Well, that's if I read the bottom section of my Window Sticker correctly !(AD131 N REC2X 115 001326 04 13 10)

From my understanding, April 13th is the date that the build order was finalized. You build date is April 20th, as shown in the 9 digit number at the upper left.

OK, I don't think the marketing people had anything to do with this one.

I just called the ford customer service number and they stated the car was sent to production on 4/8 with an ETA to the dealer on 4/26.

I'm not really sure why we cut a car company so much slack just becuase we want something so bad!
I agree that if they are just waiting for the 17th they should just announce it. But as far as your response of just cancelling it, that's just plain impatience on your behalf. Things like this happen all the time due to quality constraints and the ever increasing demands of consumers. Your cancelled order would make another sale for another salesman, but you now have wasted your salesman's time, who ordered it for you. All because you want something right now. And will now settle for something else, maybe even wait longer, just to spite them. Hopefully you understand that the time they spent with you checking options and getting it ordered just the way you wanted it, he made NOTHING. You kept him from making any sort of income at that time by selling a vehicle to someone else.
I'm sorry for the rant, but I hate when people only think about themselves, when if they just understood what goes into something first, they may approach it differently.
You talked about how you don't understand how we let the manufacturer's get away with this, I wonder how they put up with you cancelling it on a whim?

Just how do they do rework?

If there is a problem with the GT, will they fix all the cars already built before shipping or push it off to the dealer to do it? Fixing the GTs on their lot sounds overwhelming with how many there probably are by now!

Could you hint to the reason why?

So, I guess if they're holding up GT production, my already built one won't ship until they release, correct?
