As much as I hate to admit it lol. there's somewhat of a similarity in the front end design of both the II and S-197..However that's where it also ends as both the side and rear profiles along with the overall size between the II and S-197 are in no way identical what so ever as the design for the S-197 took it's styling cues from the original 1st and 2nd generation 65-70 Stangs..

Mark, you no longer qualify for S197 ownership!

Of course they do. It's crazy not to see some resemblence in the pictures above. The debate can start with HOW MUCH they look like IIs. Some more than others, of course. I thought your picture was a good choice.

I saw that one some time ago and I thought it was a nice tribute.

Maybe the 2009 will have that German engineered 2.8 v6 in it like the II did? Oh wait... I think the 4.0 in the Mustang is derived from that engine. Hmmmmm.... I don't know what they will think up next. I guess it is time for a funky King Cobra color scheme!

As I previously acknowledged Ttbit, there is some resemblence between the S-197 and Mustang II as far as the front end design is concerned..However once again that's where the similarities end as both the rear and side profiles along with the overall size between the S-197 and Mustang II are nothing alike what so ever especially in the quarter panel section in which the fenders are both flared and have somewhat of a generic hip to them where on the other hand, the Mustang II does not nor does it have a flat horizontal trunk like the S-197 either but instead has that sloping hatchback in the rear that looks more like a Pinto than a Mustang but then again it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Mustang II was based upon the Pinto platform to begin with...

But the II and the S197 share a very similar C-scoop too.

This has grown into a curious conversation to say the least. Does the S197 look a bit like the Mustang II? Yep.....as I would expect of any Mustang that looks like the original given the Mustang II's status as a compact, 1970's take on the originals styling.

Yea...maybe a new thread should be started. All Mustangs (but the current) came from some other platform. What is funny is how the '79-2004 were based on the '78 Fairmont. If you look at a Fairmont, you can see the combo coupe/hatchback in it and the interior is close too. The '94 and up were drastically improved and look nothing like a Fairmont.

I don't think the 79-93 look like Mustangs, do they? Glad they existed long enough to bring Mustang styling back though. Do you think 20 or so years from now we will see a Mustang that looks like a 79-93? Not saying I don't like them though. I had several and might still have my '85 t-top car if it didn't get totalled by a storm years ago.

Does the S-197 look like the Mustang II? Sure. And if my grandmother had wheels she'd be a wagon.

Sure there are some styling ques between the two but having owned both thats where it ends. The 76 Cobra II I owned was a piece of junk. The 302 was the only thing that keep me driving it for 3 years. It was a stop light terror with the T-Lok and a shift kit in the C4, but passed 85 mph the vibrations were hell. Only years later did I find out Ford would install a unibody brace if you complained enough.
My 06 is vastly superior to the 76 in every respect. Modern technology has a lot to do with it. In the late 70`s all the North American car manufacturers realized they couldn`t keep building junk and survive.

My only complaints with the '06 is the over-complication of the throttle.

The 79-93 mustangs looked like "rolling 1950`s refrigerators", I drove Ford trucks for those years.

It's a little known secret that the Fox body was inspired by the Datsun 200SX
