2009 Mustang

Just came up on leftlane news ... spy shots of the 09 mustang. not much can be seen but it should help fuel the speculation that has been running rampant.

Did you notice the fogs in the grill?

It appears that this is a regular GT with a new front clip and possibly hood. I noticed that it does not have hips like it the new is suppose to.

The hood seems raised a bit more, and to have some shape on it like the 99-04...

The fact that it's got a new hood and front clip leads me to believe this is a powertrain test mule, so the rest of the body doesn't really matter.

There should not be a need for such hood for the Mustang or the Mustang GT. There is a good possibility it might be a test mule for the Bullitt or Boss.

The raised hood shares similarities with the '03 Cobra test mule hood.

At first glance, it seems to be only subtle tweaks from the current car, not a radical departure. Fogs are still visible through the grille opening in the camo and the hood bulge seems more pronounced. Other observations are that the front appears to have more angles or creases particularly at the corners. Final observation is that the front bumper is less pronounced and seems closer to being flush with the grille, although not completely. However, some of that can certainly be attributed to the camo masking the difference in visual depth.

That may not represent the full extent of the changes. They may only be testing the cooling attributes of the new grill design using the existing body style.

With all the padding in that cover its hard for me to tell what is hood and what is from the cover.
One thing i did notice was that the headlight openings seem to retain the forward lean rather than taking on the sweapt up and back look of the italian concept (which seems to be what all cars have now). It also appears that they are a little more angled as in the red concept in (motortrend?).
No idea about it being a powertrain test mule, though I dont know why they would need to mask anything off if it was just a test for that. Wouldnt it be easier to just put the new powertrain in a plain jane 2006 that no one would ever notice?

It could very well be an engine mule for the 2010, or maybe even an s/e for the 2009

The biggest thing to catch my attention is the bulge on the hood, perhaps they are experimenting with dropping in the next-gen Boss motor.

This could very well be an early, early 2010 Mule

Keep in mind, the first 2005 mules were spotted in 2002 as hacked-up SN95 Mustangs. The first fully camoflaugued bodies were out in the summer of 2003, a full two years before start of production.

Oh yeah... that article has the timeline totally wrong, its been confirmed through many sources that the car is coming out for 2010

looks to me more like that snub-nosed version from the cover of one of those magazines from a while back...
i'm hoping it's nothing more than a motor mule...

I see the link from the main page

Looks interesting.

Seems theres still spots for the fogs,
so theres probably a bigger grille opening than on the Guigiaro, which doesn't seem to have room for those large fogs.
Also has more of a crease/lip in the front bumper where the Italian Stallion is smooth all the way down...

I don't know about you guys, but I hate the orange concept and absolutely hope that the redesign looks nothing like it. I mean entirely to each their own, but I think the orange concept is gross and does nothing to represent the mustang.

Looks like they're testing the cooling of the next nose/engine package on a current body.
