  • 15,573 miles: transmission fluid TSB performed ($0)
  • 19,967 miles: Check Engine Light (P0446) came on - Vapor Wire Circuit at Cannister Vent Solenoid corroded in two pieces. Replaced pigtail at the cannister vent. ($0)
  • 24,466 miles: stock Pirellis replaced as they had worn unevenly. Replaced with takeoffs from a friend with an identical car that got aftermarket rims/tires immediately. ($300)
  • 25,014 miles: squealing noise from under the hood happened. Water pump replaced along with thermostat seal and clamp. ($0)
  • 43,457 miles: Air bag light was on - Found B0028:13 in RCM hard fault. PP Test G found high resistance in airbag 4.780HM (passenger seat side airbag). Replaced RF seat side airbag and RF seat trim. ($0 cost but would have been $800+ if out of warranty)
  • 50,000 miles: 2nd set of Pirellis replaced after getting a nail in the sidewall and not wanting to replace 1 tire out of 4 when all were fairly worn out. ($735)
  • 51,653 miles: inconsistent starting problem diagnosed with two fixes - replacement of original battery and PCM programming update (TSB 11-3-32) ($350)
  • Unrepaired yet but broken since last fall: driver side power seat track in need of replacing. ($750 quoted cost)
  • Unrepaired as of yet: one of the blend door actuators in the dash is going bad. (Assuming this will be $300+)
All that's got me a bit concerned the car will continue to have some issues but am not thinking of trading it in or anything at this point, as I still have 18 months of payments left on the original 48 month loan.
Now that I am having the infamous hood bubbling/corrosion issue too, it's got me getting close to the edge on this car. Between that and the two unrepaired things above, both of which are sitting in my garage right now, I've got a lot of money to spend on this car that's only 3 years old, with 62K miles and 16 months left of payments. I've spent as much on this car in 2.5 years as I did on my previous car, an '03 Mazda6 that I owned for 5 years, drove for 90K miles and only got rid of at 123K because it was totaled by an idiot driver. The amount of electrical problems I've had on this car makes me think it's an old British Leyland car with Lucas Electrics - corroded wiring harness, bad passenger airbag/sensors, PCM update to fix inconsistent starting, the bad power seat track and the blend door motor, all in 2.5 years.

Somebody talk me off the ledge before I give up the car I've dreamed about since I was 14 and trade it in on the kid-moving Flex I'll need before too long. Plan was always to make the Mustang a 3rd car when that happened, but I won't throw money away on a 3rd car if it's unreliable like this thing may end up.
