Boss Quad Exhaust for GT
Hey guys. Been unable to post for awhile but I've been keeping up with this thread eager to jump in with info to help.
About 6 months ago I bought the boss side kit from American Muscle. I had them price match buyfordracing.com for $650 shipped.
Getting under to install it everything bolted up perfectly, except the passenger side pipe would not align with the hole in the chassis. Even with everything loose it took a lot of force. The other side was no problem. Anyway I noticed a high frequency vibration sound between 2500-3500 rpms coming from the rear passenger side. I adjusted the bolt several times both tightening and loosening. Sometimes the adjustment made it worse (wider rpm range and louder) sometimes a bit less but never gone. I also adjusted the arm to make sure there was plenty of clearance under the car.
I had my highly trusted mechanic look at it. Everything looked good.
So I called FRPP and at first they said it was harmonic and I needed to go out and buy foam and stick it on the side pipe. That wasn't cool with me so I talked to Mike there. He was amazing.
At first he sent me a new side pipe. It didn't line up either. I flipped the H-Pipe and sure enough, the drivers side didn't align. Basically 3 months ago he authorized AM to send me a whole new kit (on FRPP). It also happened to be AM's last one.
At that time Mike explained that it was discontinued and that it "had nothing to do with the fitment issues
."
Had my mechanic install the new one. We pulled the entire old kit and used all the new parts, bolts, etc. We determined that the H-Pipe wasn't in spec and was pushing the side pipe to the rear making the grommet bind, causing vibration. Then I sent the old kit back to FRPP.
The new one is perfect. I love it.
Mike did also hint that a new version might be on the horizon.....

I wonder if it would be possible to have the boss setup, with a Y-pipe coming off of the restrictor plate. From that other opening, run the kooks side pipes.
Basically 4 pipes underneath the side of the car!
Haha I'll try to see if my local exhaust shop can fab it up

So don't freak out everybody, because "that last one" might be defective. Also we will probably see a new model once the s550 pipes are out.
Also on a personal note, thanks for the info because I was worried "something bad" was happening to cars and they discontinued it for that reason. But since mine went in fine and sounds good, I guess I'm lucky.
How do you talk to a person at FRPP?

Lol. No worries guys. It's funny, I was reading at first when you guys couldn't find them wondering why and I was all like ooooh, oooooh, I know!! I sometimes get a bit too aggressive with my opinions and got banned for 6 months!
Anyway. The one I sent back went first to AM and then they sent it back to FRPP. I got confirmation that FRPP received it and as far as I know they were going to toss it on one of their personal cars since they were also bummed about the discontinue. It sounded like they were excited to get it back. Lol.
As far as defective rates, I researched the crap out of it while trying to solve the issue and only found 1 other guy with alignment issues on the passenger side pipe. And only a couple with the vibration issues. Granted they were discontinuing them for what a I took as a reason like that. I'm sure the last one is fine and not my old one.

Since I already have the Boss H pipe (still need to order the side pipes) I am really tempted to install it without the side pipes but I am curious if it would be way to loud?? Do the side pipes tone it down a bit or change the sound at all?

I'd be concerned about melting stuff underneath. My kit came with blanks installed on the sides of the h pipe, do you have those? Do you have the 1/4" restrictor installed? Either of those would probably be fine.
Or you can go to Boss Mustangs Online, there's a guy selling restrictors of various sizes. But I'd just wait.
I must be deaf. I have no restrictor plate and it's not loud to me at all.
Just hook it up without the restrictors. Even if you decide to install them later to tone it down a bit, I cannot fathom anyone feeling the car is obnoxiously loud without the restrictors.
I am guessing it's louder with the Roadrunner engine on the Boss. I am considering adding the restrictors only for long road trips and even then not convinced.
Point is don't waste money on blanks or restrictors until you get the pipes installed. Don't waste time changing the H pipe either if you don't have something for the sides. If the h pipe came with blanks (mine did), then you probably can install it but I can't fathom why you'd want to.

good luck man!
Once I took the plates out, I never went back. It drones a bit on the freeway when you're off the gas. I especailly like it with the track key + loopy idle, I wonder if you can get that tune on the GT with software? If you go on a long trip, add the plates back in for the freeway stuff, its still loud as **** when you step on it.

I have heard this. I have also heard it replaces the warranty, and I have also heard it augments the warranty.
But in imagining what the experience would be like if a piston failed due to a manufacturer defect at 40k, I'm just not sure I believe the TracKey won't be blamed since, as I understand, it's an aftermarket tune.
