Base GT500 with no options MSRP $49,495 - Dealer cost $43,090 = $6,405 difference with D&D included.
Optioned out with SVT PP, Electronics package MSRP $55,330 - Dealer Cost $47,992 = $7,338
You can see I was dead on here. An optioned out GT premium is easily $4,000 with a GT/CS approaching $5,000. Gt Premium = $32,845 - Dealer cost $28,980 = $3,865 and we are not into options yet. The more options the bigger the gap and this can easily go into well over a $5,000 difference.

MSRP for the base GT500 with no options is $48,645, invoice is $43,999 making $4,646 the difference. The D&D is not a dealer cost and has no profit margin, just as the FDAF Assessment and the fuel charge. Those are buyers costs and right out of my Vehicle Order Confirmation form.
My 2011 MSRP was $52,990 with the SVTPP, invoice was $48,421.60 which included the FDAF and fuel charge making the difference total $4,568.40. It is next to impossible to expect a dealer to sell a GT500 with the options you mentioned without any manufacturer's incentives for $46K.

You are confusing dealer cost and invoice. They are not the same thing. My post above is 100% accurate. Invoice is not what the dealer pays even though many would lie to you about this. You are right the D&D is $850 MSRP and $850 dealer cost. It doesn't matter the difference in price between what a dealer pays and MSRP on a base GT500 with no options is $6,405 as stated above. Meaning the dealer makes a profit of $6,405 if he sells a base GT500 for MSRP.

This was the original question and invoice has no bearing on it what so ever as it doesn't give the profit margin for the dealer as that is not what he paid. The dealer pays far less than invoice for the vehicle. I would never expect a dealer to sell cars for cost! Invoice is a great compromise as the dealer makes money and the consumer saves money.
Your vehicle which sounds beautiful by the way had a dealer cost of $46,026 and a MSRP of $52,990. So if one was sold at MSRP the dealer would make a profit of $6,964. If you paid $48,422 he made a profit of $2,396.

I am aware of the dealer holdback which is less than 2% of the invoice, that is one item off the negotiation table. The dealers have to make some money otherwise we would be buying Mustangs from Walmart.
The point is not to be argumentative with you but to help those who are seeking to buy be informed to make the best and reasonable deal without making the dealer feel the buyer has not concept of the dealer making a reasonable profit. I am not aware of anyone buying a brand new GT500 $7K of the MSRP, if there was a possibility I would have tried myself. My purchase was about $3,600 under MSRP which I considered fair to both parties.

Hey AZ !! We're going to have twin cars!!! Mine is also getting (59G) Glass roof. Ordered Yesterday. Build date anticipated as 1/18/11. (If I make the first batch submitted). Mine will take 10 weeks vs std 8wks, gotta ship it out for the glass top install.

STOP THE MYTH!!
Glass roofs are part of the vehicle's STRUCTURE and are not shipped somewhere else off-site to get installed. PERIOD.
When the car goes down the line in the body build department the build skid is assigned your rotation number and it is built as a "convertible" or a "coupe" or a "glass roof coupe"; then instead of the same number of roof bow reinforcements as the coupe it (the robot putting on roof bows) either omits the roof bow or puts on a specific (ie. modified) one (depending on what vehicle it is).
When that skid travels on to the roofing line, the tag reader knows that car is a glass roof car and doesn't install a steel roof panel. The body then travels on to paint and gets painted just like every other car.
When the car gets out of paint, usually the first thing in the trim department (maybe on a separate line but not in a separate plant!!!) they install the glass roof. It has to be done before the seats, interior trim panels, headliner, etc gets put in!
So IF there is any delay at all for your car by ordering the glass roof, it is from either two reasons. One, is that the vendor (glass roof manufacturer) has a fixed production schedule and can't supply the roof fast enough; and the other, is production mix.
What production mix means is that jobs on the line are designed and arranged for an average speed.* This may delay your order because there is a fixed ratio of your trim level that can be output. If you want to know the details read below...
In any event, sending your car out to get a glass roof put on retroactively is just not true. Any glass roof product (including the Ford Edge and Flex, the Lincoln MkX and MkT that we make in our plant) are designed that way from the ground up.
*Say that the plant's production speed is set at 60 jobs per hour, then each worker has one minute to complete his or her task and walk to the next job. However, some cars take 40 seconds to complete, some might take a minute-and-a-half to complete. But the average is one minute if you take 2x 45s jobs and 1x 90s jobs. If the coupe and convertible are 45s jobs and the glass roof is a 90s job, then the production mix is capped at 1 in 3. This is a rather simplified example, but the long and the short of it is that the mix is a balance between manpower and equipment and materials considerations. When you are scheduling vehicles months in advance to the very day, many variables are considered, and mix is decided.

While I would have liked having lit vanity mirrors and a built in garage door opener, I for one happen to like the stone colored trim panels and headliner, so I am happy I opted for a stone interior 2011 model.
I can understand the change though. Stone was the only interior color that had different trim pieces.

I don't think the gt500 has to worry about the z28...the gt500 is already 5 years ahead in evolution and sales. I agree slap some wider tires on the back and you should launch better. I still dont think people should obsess with numbers because no matter what you have...there always seems to be someone out there that will out run you...whether it is a $3000 craigslist bought sportbike and a novice rider or some goofy 600hp civic with an extra 100hp of nitrous, lol. I still love the gt500 because it is my style...I think the limited traction thing is a rush to experience! I don't want an Auto in a GT500...but true, it may make it faster. Why would someone buy the Gt350 that is coming out? $34k plus your 5.0 GT will get you 525hp but should push you around $60k total. May even out run a Gt500 since it's lighter? But it is a different style just like the '12 Boss too... which I think I need! Just not sure if a half a second is enough to persuade a Mustang lover to a Camaro. I looked at the cts-v, the z06 and the Camaro and when it came down to it I didn't want to spend my money there! Just saying.
