Brian is pretty much spot-on. I wanted to add that when it was the Active Anti-Theft Package (which turned into the Security Package), back in 2005, Ford gave with the package a 60-amp/hour battery to run the system and blow the horn longer. Then when HIDs came out in 2007, the Security Package was required. I took it as they wanted a stronger battery to help power the HIDs. I could be way off, but that is what I took from it.

I don't believe the higher battery is for the HIDs. Since they run on a 35w setup, not 55w like standard bulbs, they are more energy efficient than a non-HID equipped car. The active anti-theft system is a constant monitoring device, with proximity sensors located on the map light area in the car, and most likely requires more power to run than a non-AAT equipped car. They add the extra battery for the alarm and for panic situations where that would go off.
The nice thing about adding the Security pkg is that you can usually get some sort of insurance deduction for having that. Every little bit counts.

Is it possible to get the 2011 V6 Coupe with a glass roof and the Electronics Package? I was looking at the 2010 and it seemed like you had to get the GT Premium to get either of those 2 options. I like the car but I don't really need all that power and would like to keep the costs down below $30k if possible.

Thanks Jeff. Makes sense, although I am more inclined to think along Brian's line that insurance costs/theft deterrent is a big factor in this setup. If it was purely driven by the battery, I can't imagine why Ford wouldn't simply take $25 out of the $395 HID cost and get a better battery. Who knows.

Just buy a '10 GT and save yourself a lot of $

My educated guess is that an '11 V6 auto with gears, tune, and CAI would like run the 1/4 mile in the high 13's @ 100-101 mph, while the '11 GT auto will run high 12's @ 107-108 mph. That's quite a big difference. 1 second in the 1/4 mile means the GT would be about 150 feet ahead of the V6 at the finish line.

Car&Driver in 8/07 tested one.
WEIGHT: Curb: 3717 lb
Power (SAE net): 330 bhp @ 7000 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 270 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm
0-60: 5.3 sec
1/4 mile: 13.9 sec@103 mph
it's a 6m with a steeper final-drive but if you look at the ratios they are close to an auto mustangs, the G37 also required a shift into 4th for the 1/4 mile where the mustang is gonna be at the top of 3rd.
it's got +30 hp but also weighs ~250 lbs more
my guess is that an auto V8 will do numbers similar or better than a Jaguar XKR coupe without any mods, they tested one 1/07..
WEIGHT: Curb: 3870 lb
Power (SAE net): 420 bhp @ 6000 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 413 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm
0-60: 4.5 sec (if it can hook up that well)
1/4 mile: 13.0 sec@109 mph
both cars have the same trans (ratios and standard 3:31:1 final)
Jag has a few more ponies and torque but also outweighs the GT by ~200 lbs.
however they perform, i'm sure nobody will be disappointed.

Someone needs to order a Premium GT with a Glassroof, Saddle interior, either one of the silver or red exteriors, and spoiler delete. The rest is up to you- trans, brakes, wheels, whatever. Enjoy it for 3 years and then sell it to me for $18,000!!!!

Haha. If I order an 11 it will be Sterling/Saddle, 6MT, Glass Roof, spoiler delete, Brembo pack, Elec Pack.

I'll take it! Let's draw up a contract on this. And I was thinking about it and I'd also except the red leather interior as well. That gives you plenty of options.

I just got word my dealer is only getting allocated one 2011 5.0L for the first build cycle. Since my order was the first one submitted they are giving me that allocation with x-plan pricing. Job #1 date is 3/15/10 with ETA early April.

Hey bud, congrats!!! I'm only worried why they only are getting one? I heard via text message that we are getting 3 Mustangs for March and took an extra one to boot. Plus Ford has a Retail Order Verification program in place that doesn't take away from regular allocation for dealers. The retail orders (have to submit a copy of license with order to Ford to process the order) are over top of what the dealer is getting. For me, its awesome as the 3 GTs I have for members on here are covered and I have 4 more for stock (or more TMS members orders)
