They certainly aren't the same cars for the same times, but as you know, product planning has to be done on the basis of volumes. I maintain that if the volumes for the first few years had not been what they were, Ford product planners might not have been convinced to plan for the next version.
You bring up a very good point. And if the volumes during those first 2 years, had not been what they were. Then yes, there's a very strong possibility that Ford may have killed off the Mustang.
Once again, your right and I shouldn't had been so hasty. As we should all be thankful for the Mustang II. Otherwise the Mustang may have not survived 40+ years.
In my opinion the 93' Cobras will be the most sought after SVTs in the future (low mileage 93' SVTs already commanding a high price). GT500s are not the limited production cars that the dealers make them out to be. But a 93' Cobra, I regret not buying one when I had the chance. It is such a rare car when you think about it. As for the Mustang II i'm sorry I have no love for those cars if I was around back then I would have jumped ship and gotten a smoky and the bandit style Trans Am!
As far as the 10' Mustang goes i'm so eager to see it I just got a Car & Driver magazine with the new Challenger on the cover and the supposed 1/4 numbers are 13.01 which when you think about it is not far off from the GT500 despite being heavier and having 75hp I hope that Ford can learn of the Challenger and Camaro's capabilities and if need be make final tweaks to make the Mustang the best of the bunch.

I agree with you totally, and I think if the rumors are true about the 5.0 and weight reduction, this mustang will be the fastest ( and probably cheapest) of the bunch...well the challenger for sure =P, dunno about the camaro's price yet...

When I traded in my Cobra for my 05GT. It included 2 brand new Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP tires, Flowmaster A/T cat back exhaust, FRPP shorty headers (ceramic coated) and also the original OEM exhaust, with stock exhaust manifolds.
The car was also black w/cloth seats, and had just 31,283 original miles.
As for the 2010. I've kept the mileage low on my current 05GT, at 7009k miles, just in case I decide to get the 10. Although it's going to have to take much more than just hips, to convince me to part with my 05. I'll also require at least 350/365 HP as well.
Otherwise by the time I'm done modifying the 05. It would be very unlikely that I'd be willing to part with it. As I should already be pretty close to 350 HP anyhow.
Of course, I would expect the designers and engineers work collaboratively through the process, and that good designers are going to keep in mind what can be produced within a certain cost parameters.
Time will tell what people think of the current styling vs the upcoming changes. My hope would be there are people as passionate as you are about that car to carry on the Mustang tradition into the future.
EEK! I would have kept that one! I really like the '93 Cobras - teal would have been the color for me.
If only I had know about this 3.5 years ago Phil, I would've sold you my 93 Cobra, and you're absolutely right. They were very rare, in which only 4993 total units were built in 93. The Cobra "R" models were even more rare at just 107 total units.

Your right I wish I had known I would have loved to pick up a low mile 93 Cobra. I don't have a crystal ball or anything but I have a feeling that the 93 Cobras will be the most sought after SVT of all time. People in my area want $25-30,000 for a low mile bone stock SVT Cobra. They are rare examples of cars that have increased in value in a fairly short time. I think when all is said and done the 93 Cobras will be worth more than the Terminators and GT500s.... how i'm bummed out I would have loved to have seen that ride.
does make sense, i mean, 2005-2010-2015 then it will level off probably update every 3-4 years after that, hopfully i make it to be able to buy the 100th ann. ...1000 hp electric flying car lol...but in all seriousness, im excited for the refresh, looks *so far* to be more vicious looking, and im always happy for more power, im part of the home improvment, tim allen generation! *tool man grunt* OGH! OGH OGH!
The next full makeover for the Mustang. Is not just around the corner, as I've stated before. The next major platform change, won't take place until during the 2015 model year, as a 2014.5 launch. As Ford is not about to launch an all new Mustang, just 2 years before reaching it's 50th anniversary !
I tend to disagree, but I guess only time will tell. My reasoning for this is because the production numbers where so low.like 5000?. Also it was the first year of the SVT Cobra and the only one on the fox platform. If you look on ebay, auto trader the 93' Cobras in excellent condition are already selling in the mid $20,000 range and are flat out in higher demand than the 94-98 Cobras. I understand that it's performance is not on par with the 4.6 Cobras but demand doesn't always hang on power alone.

Do you happen to have the exact links ? I looked at autotrader.com, and all I could find was MSRP listing price of $18,505. As for e-bay, the highest bid so far is at $12,100, however it also has 48K miles. Where as mine had just 31,283 miles. So I'm not really sure, as to what price range it would fall under

You traded in your 93' SVT for the 05!?!

I jumped on it.
If I had known these cars would be going for $25-30,000. I would've held onto it longer, until the 2010 was about ready to launch.
I don't have any links these are from past experiences, and at a dealership I looked at to purchase an 03 Cobra had a teal 93' with 40k? on it. They wanted 19,000 firm, keep in mind this was a couple years ago! I'm sure that car on ebay will hit $20k or very close.
From what I see there is only one 93' Cobra on ebay and it looks to be heavily modified. If you check out Autotrader.com look up the 93' Cobras for sale across the country the low mileage ones are selling between $23,000 to $18,500 either way a heck of a return on these cars that really are not all that old. From what I gather the MSRP for these cars back in 93' was $18,505 and now only 15 years later people are selling them for a profit. I can only imagine what these will sell for in another 15 years.
The thing to remember is that the fox body has a very loyal following and the 93' Cobra is the ultimate fox body. With less than 5000 units made these cars are very sought after. Like I said earlier these will in my opinion be worth more than the Terminators and GT500s 30 years from now because of their rarity and uniqueness. I'm hoping to cash in one day and purchase one in the next couple years if I can find a bargain (the one on ebay is only 45min away from me and doesn't sound like a bad price)

I was able to locate two 93 black Cobra's, on auto trader's website. The first one has 24,500 miles, and appears to be stock. Asking price: $19,995.
The second has 33,000 miles, but appears to be extremely modified with Edelbrok alluminum heads, upper and lower manifold extrude hone, MAC cold air induction kit, 73mm mass air, 70mm throttle body, BBK headers, flowmaster exaust, 373 gear, Pro5.0 short shifter, 35th annivirsary shift ****, 190 fuel pump w/ fuel pressure gauge. Asking price: $ 18,500.
I also located 2 red Cobra's, in which both appear to be stock. The first one has 28,671 miles. Asking price: $22,999. The second has 29,962 miles. Asking price: $22,995.
The last one I located, was a teal green Cobra with 77,000 miles, and also appears to be stock. However the owner is seeking $33,000, which IMHO is asking way too much for such a high mileage vehicle.
I've also noticed that out of the 5 listings. 3 of them are being sold through used car dealerships, and personally speaking. I don't believe they'll be able to get more than $15,000 max. for the ones which have close to 30,000 miles and above.

Eh, the S197 may not be perfect, but as far as I'm concerned, it is certainly the best looking Mustang since the 1970 model year. I really hope Ford retains some of the design cues from the S197 (and thus inspired from the classic 'stangs) from now on in future Mustangs. Rather than completely redesigning the car every few years, I like to see a recognizable design lineage and heritage.
The S197 is the best looking Mustang since the 70s. Period.
