'10 not as cool as '05-09 s197

I've never been a fan of the looks of the SN95 (or Fox body, or Mustang II, for that matter).
Anyway, I too am apprehensive about the S197 refresh, but I certainly don't think it'll look less muscular...weird maybe, but not less muscular. From what I can tell the new car will still essentially look like the current model but with a number of tweaks. Here's hoping they tweak the right stuff and don't mess up a good thing...

Ditto here, love the 60's and some 70's models. others I don't think are as attractive. Ours is more or less perfect styling.

I agree. Way too early to tell. Judging from the roofline though, which appears identical, it will be an evolution of the current car, as expected, not a whole new design direction. Parked side by side, it'll be easy to tell they're siblings, I'm sure.
My hope is that the 2010 looks different, but not necessarily "better," sort of like a '70 doesn't necessarily look "better" than a '69. It's more about personal preference (and personally, I prefer the '69).

This debate reminds me of when the 99' model first hit the streets. If my memory serves me correctly the 94' model got the same warm reception as the 05'. In my opinion it was the first retro stang, though not to the extent as the current car it was the first to bring back many classic styling cues (pony in the grille, 3 bar tail lights, side scoops, twin pod dash......) Many felt that the 94-98 cars were the best looking since the classic era and that Ford couldn't improve upon the car's styling. Most of my friends in the Mustang community welcomed the added power and overall upgrades of the 99' model but where not fans of the styling (myself included) after a couple years the car began to grow on people and now are considered the more attractive of the two. I have a feeling that many will dislike the next gen car while others will love it and after a year or two the ones who disliked the car will warm up to it like I did with the 99-04 cars. Try to think back guys. what where your feelings of the 99' car when it was first released?

As for not being a fan of the previous SN-95. Even though the 94-98's took some design cues from 1st generation models. I really didn't care for the swoopy body panel design at all. IMO from a visual point of view, those early SN-95's looked more like bathtubs, than Mustangs.
Maybe it's just me, but the body panels seemed almost identical to the Probe. While the greenhouse, reminded me more of an early Celica ST.
On the other hand. I actually did like the 99-04 re-design, as the sharper edged body panels. seemed to somewhat look a bit more muscular, and aggressive.

But within a few months the 99 design grew on me and made the 94 look whimpy and out of date. I ended up buying a 2001 GT.
I'm expecting the 2010 update an edgier more agressive style than the 2005, just like the 99 was to the 94.

FYI. My conclusions, along with how I express my opinions. Are based upon research, and not by premature speculation. Unless you somehow are gifted with X-ray vision. You really have no clue, as to what the 2010 Mustang looks like bro. Just as the rest of us, don't know at this point as well, for that matter !

When I first saw the 99 Stang, I hated it, I thought "How could they have messed up the 94 design?"

Not to get off subject but enough with the sn95 bashing, I like the current gen too but calling them perfect? give me a break already guys. I hope the next gen is more modern looking like they forecast. I like retro too but you can't keep reinventing the past!
As far as the retro looks of the s197 cars, thank the 94-04 cars that began with the retro looks..... If the 94' looks like a bath tub then the fox looks like a brick. Think about it. it wasn't until 94' that the classic themes came back.... the fox body cars were at the time the modern cutting edge styling that took it away from the classic cars of the 60-70s to begin with......

So let me get this straight (termy aside), In the case of the Mach, you paint the rear wing black, add a chin spoiler up front and give it a domed hood with a shaker and the new edge cars go from looking like they were struck by lightning and the resulting fire put out with an ugly stick to straight awesome. In the case of the Bullitt, you delete the wing, and the scoop, change the sails on the B-pillar, and give the car the name sake wheels and it goes from Phyllis Diller to Jessica Biel.... okaaaaay.... gotch'ya

Eh, the S197 may not be perfect, but as far as I'm concerned, it is certainly the best looking Mustang since the 1970 model year. I really hope Ford retains some of the design cues from the S197 (and thus inspired from the classic 'stangs) from now on in future Mustangs. Rather than completely redesigning the car every few years, I like to see a recognizable design lineage and heritage.

The most distinctive looks of the 01' Bullitt were the wheels and hood scoop by 02' any run of the mill GT and even some V6s got the same treatment... If you like the bullitt then you should like the 02-04 GT since they pretty much look the same.
I agree that the Mustang should keep a distinctive look but isn't the long hood short deck kinda what they been doing all these years? Times change and with that styling changes. Though the 94' may look dated today with it's "round" styling it was the norm for almost all cars produced in the early to mid 90s much like the boxy aero shape of the fox........ almost all 80s cars had that boxy shape. The 94-98 Mustang looks as much like a Probe as a Fox body does to an 80s Escort. I have a feeling that in a couple years the retro theme will become unpopular and they will again take a new direction.
I personally am a fan of pretty much all Mustangs except the Mustang II years. But many are not like me. The current car without a doubt was marketed to baby boomers wanting the "classic" Mustang and I am cool with it many 5th gen buyers have not owned a Mustang in 10-20 years while some of the more recent Mustang crowd has been kinda turned off by the retro looks. I think Ford wants to meld together the looks of the retro 05' car with modern cues to get back some of the younger buyers whom were turned off by it's very retro styling. I love the 4th gen car but would also welcome a more modern looking car

Theres something in every gen I like as well (even the II's) and your right 97 cars certainly are a product of their time. Lol can't wait to go out and gush all over that retro-fox in 2030 Hopefully they will be able to emulate the sound of 2 chamber flows and an off-road pipe.
Hell by 2030 the fleet will probably all be diesel electric hybrids using electric motors at all four wheels and exhuast will be like ambient lighting or my color, hit a button and select from a gozillion preprogrammed sounds or make your own.
Then again, I'll be a crochety old guy probably driving an equally crochety Mustang rigged to run on whatever you can burn in an internal combustion engine in 2030 *****ing about the good old days when gas was only 10.00 a gallon and it wasn't E99.999999999999999

Holding my judgement until I see an actual pic of it and know the drivetrain specs. Having said that - Its always enjoyable to speculate on "what ifs"

I thought my Black 2001 Mustang GT was sharp!
As for the 2010? I am a little worried. I don't like what I see in the spy shots. I like the current retro look, although I wish the front end of the Mustang GT looked more aggressive looking - like the GT500.
I like the retro dash board and numbers on the current Mustang, and I am worried that Ford is going to make the 2010 dash look like a Fusion or Focus.
