2013 Ford Escape EcoBoost 1.6 Recalled Over Engine Fire Concerns

http://wot.motortrend.com/recall-rou...#ixzz215umuMNX

2013 Ford Escape 1.6-Liter EcoBoost

The Problem: The fuel lines in models equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-liter EcoBoost could split and leak, potentially causing an engine fire. The problem would only happen if the engine was running, and has so far not caused any reported injuries. 2013 Ford Escape models with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost and 2.5-liter engines are unaffected by this problem.

The Fix: Ford will repair the fuel lines for free, in a procedure that takes only about an hour to complete at a dealership. The company warns owners of affected Escapes to avoid driving them until the repair is complete, and dealers won’t sell or allow test-drives of recalled models until they have been fixed.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 11,500 Ford Escapes with 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine.

Well, Big 3 never really knew how to build a reliable 4 cylinder engine ...

Those were developed by Ford Europe and then later on introduced in the USA. Even those were nowhere near as reliable as I4 engines from Toyota and Honda in the 1980s and 1990s.

What does a fuel line issue have to do with the motor? (If you are referencing the 1.6 EcoBoost?) Regardless, recalls such as this shouldn't happen. Ford can't afford too many recalls on upcoming new vehicle launches!

I'd rather see them recall 10,000 now than a few hundred thousand later.

I just meant in general, that Big 3 in the USA never really knew how to build a reliable I4 engines. And there was never really a big demand for them, so it's not really a big deal. I mean, Europeans could never build reliable V8 engines like those that GM, Ford and Chrysler can.

I'm not sure why these problems are happening, I expected this from the old Ford, but not the new one. I'm not sure why Escape was rushed, its not like the old one wasn't selling well.

Pick up a copy of "Ford-The Dust and Glory" A Racing History. Vol#1

Ford helped to take this country out of the dark ages with a 4 Cylinder that did not even need roads to get around on. It was called the "Model T" you know the one, just in case your clueless.

On a side note, my family from my mothers side is from central europe and immigrated here due to losing everything (and almost there lives) because of WWII.

You know that "Ultimate Driving Machine" we are always hearing about, well
most people used to commonly refer to it as...

"Bay-Mmm-Way, stieg aus und gey, Translation= BMW, get out and walk!!

On average, most foreign cars used to all be crap and where very hard to live with and that the average person/family could barely afford, unless of coarse you had your own mechanic and boat loads of money. Sure they made some high end classics but for the most part, just junk. And please don't even mention the joke that was anything from Japan, unless it was a Yamato class Battleship.

Mean while, that little Ford rambled on, and on and on and on. And just incase you don't know this either, the first Ford was a race car, thats how this whole thing got started. There are two words that pretty much say it all
"FORD RACING"

Let's face it, Ford Model T did put America on wheels, but it wasn't all that reliable at all, it was popular because it was cheap.
I have many books about Ford's history and Model T wasn't any more reliable than most of cars during those days. It was hard to start, even harder to drive, and like most of the cars during that time - it had a serious overheating problems.

Speaking on Eastern Europe and cars there, we're from Serbia, and in the late 1970s my dad bought a 1979 Zastava 101 (same company that produced the Yugo). It was his first car that he got after finishing high school and getting his first job.
It's funny how, when you mention Eastern Europe, people automatically think that everybody there are driving 20 year old Ladas and Yugos.

But anyway, when Zastava 101 was introduced in 1971, it was one of world's first modern hatchback with FWD. That's right, Zastava had a FWD car 10 years before Ford USA did. 1.3L rated at 75 hp, which is pretty good even for today's standards.
And the best thing, it was very cheap and easy to repair. You didn't need to go to the mechanic, you could repair it by yourself in garage just by knowing basic mechanic info.

While recalls probably shouldn't happen, they do. I don't see how anyone could look at the above Escape recall, though, and conclude it's because "Ford can't design and build a 4-cylinder engine." Hmmm, I've seen Hyundai and Kia mentioned a lot this year for various recalls. If recalls are supposedly indicative of a particular company's engineering and design shortcomings, then could one surmise that Hyundai / Kia aren't the flawless, trouble-free quality masterpieces some on here make them out to be?

No company is flawless.
However, there is a difference (and this has nothing to do with Ford or any other specific car company) if a $15,000 car has a recall and if a $55,000 car has a recall.

hmmmmmm

Ferrari said it will recall the 2011 and 2012 model-year cars because the crankshaft error can cause the engines in the vehicles, which sell for $200,000 or more, to freeze suddenly and possibly cause a crash.

I also thought everyone was saying the korean firms were putting out such wonderful cars that the lack in price did not matter.

My problem with Ford wasn't recalls, it was their new high prices since starting this whole "One Ford" policy.
2013 Fusion SE 2.5L starts at $24,500. In 2008, I paid $16,500 for a brand new 2008 Fusion SE 2.3L.
Is the 2013 model better than the 2008? Definitely. But is it $8,000 better? Hmmm ...

That's a loaded response. Look at the content added between 2008 and 2013 cars, the material costs, and the government mandated safety equipment that had to be implemented between then and now. The $8000 difference won't look so drastic.

And then look at people's paychecks between 2008 and 2013 ...
