2013 Fusion/Mondeo discussion
Do you have any idea how well VW is selling in Europe and Asia?
VW sold over 8.2 million vehicles in 2011 and only 325,000 of that were sold in the USA - world's 2nd largest market for cars.
I actually like VWs, I own one, but their sales in the USA weren't going anywhere until they introduced a really cheap Jetta and USA-specific Passat (which is completely different than European Passat).

Regardless of how many vehicles sold in Europe, or how many water buffalos were used in place of Tata Nanos, you simply cannot change the fact VW sales in the US were up in 2011, up considerably. You are free to argue the were-of, why-for, at your leisure, but it will not change that fact.

Sales are up, no doubt about that, but its not up because Americans all of the sudden love European and/or global cars.
Sales went up because they introduced USA-specific Jetta and Passat which are much cheaper than the competition.
Volkswagen is a perfect example on how you just can't take the European car, change the badge and expect that it will be a success in the USA. As soon as they introduced USA-specific Jetta an Passat (true, with low price) sales went up overnight.

Just on a (wild-a$$) guess, the Fusion sells better due largely to 10 times the dealer network and 10 times the manufacturing presence in this country. Of course, you can ignore that if you want.

Which is the main reason why I'm against Fusion and Mondeo being the same car. Either the Americans won't like it or European won't like it, but chances are slim to none that both sides will like it.
I'll merge all the threads as best I can. In the future, let's try to keep one "XXX vehicle discussion" thread per reveal. You can always PM me if you need something locked/merged, as I do spend a decent amount of time in here.
I'll share my thoughts after the embargo breaks.
