Just got a shifter gasket from "cobrabob" at stangshiftergaskets.com that has stopped the infamous white smoke from my transmission. Nothing but good things can be said about his silicon gaskets. If you guys don't like the mess whenever you pull your shifter, I highly suggest it. This requires no silicon gasket maker, and still makes a great seal.

Try http://superbrightleds.com and match with the bulb type/# you have in there. The best part, is they're dimmable. You may want to get the brightest ones possible because I heard the colors other than white aren't that bright. Someone I knew tried red and it wasn't that bright at all. I was going to try this myself... but it just never happened.

Great write up if anyone else wants to try.

As soon as the LED's get here.
At 4 bucks a pop for two, it isn't that expensive a mod for you to do either.

I took my car out for a drive today, and I got two codes while I was driving down my street (first time driven in probably 2 weeks). It rattled and shook pretty bad when it was first under load, and for about the first 1/4 mile. After that it was rock solid for a couple miles. Then I stopped at a light, at which it died twice before the light turned green so I drove home. I've heard numerous times about MAF's needing to be cleaned, so I'm not too worried about that being completely shot. Could that be the cause of it dieing? I don't even know what a canister purge solenoid is, so If someone could tell me what it does, and how you can fix/test it, I'd appreciate it. I was going to bring it to get smogged, but because it threw codes I can't get it smogged without worrying they will pop up again, in which case it's an auto-fail.
My idle is a little rough, but I don't think it's that bad.
Thanks Guys.

I have no experience with a canister purge solenoid, but I performed a quick search and found a couple threads (you may of found them as well) regarding the subject on a Mustangs.

Thanks Evil, I'm gonna run to a couple parts stores and see if they can get me the part today. If not then this is going to take me back a bit.

Seems like it will be another "miracle cure". Should "fix all my problems". I still don't want to drop 60 bucks on a maybe. I guess it's all you can do sometimes.

Got here today and I took it for a run. While I was driving down the street the first time it bucked and popped and all sorts of that stuff during acceleration, but once I took it through the rpm range it ran perfect for the next 9 miles. Lots of stopping, going, brought it up to 70, and took it at a crawl. Worked well all around. I'm going to check for codes to see if anything came on while I was driving, but I think it was just "getting used to it" during the first run down the street.

And as a side note, there was less of the mysterious white smoke, but it is definitely confirmed as transmission fluid, since I could see it dripping onto my exhaust and burning off. I don't want to just get under there while it's dripping since I doubt that would be an intelligent way to figure out where it's leaking from. Any suggestions?

Guess no help with the tranny here. :-p
I got the latest greatest shift **** on though, Roush.

And as you can see, I have the box under the stereo now, so my interior is finally 100% complete.

^ God I hope I can get it smogged this week. That would be nice. Then I can finally get this on the road (legally) and have some fun (slightly less legally) haha.

I brought it to get it smogged, and they told me the reason it failed was because it doesn't have an oil cap (it does, the top is just broken off) and they said it doesn't have a charcoal canister either. I'm just wondering if they said I failed because they didnt see those parts (the canister is under fender), or if they were obligated to do the test as well? Thanks

Nevermind, I went and talked to the guy. He said he was unaware that the carbon canister was in the fender, so he said that he might have to pull it to check that it's there. The oil cap must be unbroken for it to pass though. So basically I failed because of a 5 dollar part. Other than that, it passed with flying colors.

So I bought the oil cap, and the guy at the parts store laughed saying "why would you replace this? It works just fine." So I bought the new part anyway, and brought it back to the smog place where I took it before, and the guy told me that since the cap was broken at all it had to fail, and also that since the diagram he had of 89-95 Mustangs
the carbon canister was not where it was supposed to be, and therefore he had to fail it.
Is it not their obligation by taking the job to do whatever it takes to find the parts if they are there? He said he called Ford, and that they had the same diagram, and he told me that it should be in through the hole where the air comes into the intake. He said that he's seen a bunch of foxes, and that that is where it is.
