Thanks again guys . . .

Patrick - My last Capri has been sold since I purchased the Mach. (And 1986 was the last year for 'Fox' based Capri's. ) I think I have some shots with all the black wheels on her. I'll see about posting some, but I think I may have an older thread with pictures in it.

Whit - Hey man! Yes, I'm driving her down in September for the MCA event. I'll be coming in early Friday. See you soon!

yea wasn't sure about the year on ours...like i said it was before me (1987)...so i guess ours was an '86....still love the mach though!

Last time to the track this season . . .

Well, this Saturday (4th) looks to be the last time I'll be getting to the track this season. I haven't been since late spring when I ran a 12.97 @ 106.6mph. I'm going to put my stock front wheels/tires back on with my DR's this time to save a little weight, maybe take my spare/jack out as well.

I'd like to get into the 12.8x's with stock motor/drivetrain. Should be a good day here, maybe a little on the cool side but sunny.

Cool.

I'm trying to get a couple of people to go Friday night for street night but not getting any takers so far so I might be going by myself.

Ran street a couple of weeks ago and my best time was 14.04 so I'm hoping to hit the 13's tomorrow with it being so much cooler now. I hope this isn't the last time this season I can take the Stang to the track, I still have pullies to install and I want to see if they help lower my ET any. Hopefully I can get another session in before winter really hits.

Any day at the track is a good day, but my times sure wouldn't back that up. Just couldn't get the 'feel' today. I only ran two passes and my best was a poor 13.31 @ 103.8. I had a pretty good 60' on my last pass of 1.77, but MPH was way off.

Oh well, I have the bug again and am wondering if I should trade/sell my set of 4.10 (still in the box) for some 4.30s.

Can't wait til spring . . . .

Thanks Arin. I know I'll hit better times in the spring. I'd really like to get into the 12.8xs before I start some mods (other than suspension mods already completed) to the drivetrain. I need to take her to a road course as well next spring.

Take the front sway bar off, borrow some skinnies for the front and only have about a 1/4 tank of gas. That should get you in the 12's. I wouldn't go to the 4.30's unless you're planning on running slicks, but then again your 60 foot times are very impressive.

I hit 12's in the spring. I was just trying to improve a little yesterday.

As you probably know having owned some Mach's with the .62 overdrive in the 3650 4.30's have a better cruising RPM than 4.10's in the N/A Cobra's (who have a .67 overdrive). That's one reason I am thinking about them. Once I go out to a road course for some laps I'm sure my feeling's will change.

Really I should have run about 4-5 times. I just didn't 'feel it' yesterday.

Thanks for the tips.

Those are really good 60-ft times, so I'm surprised you didnt get a lower 1/4 time. It's still good of course, and the 60-ft time definitely shows that you can launch well. What was different when you ran 12s in the spring?

My shift points . . . and practice. I usually play around with my shift points the first couple runs. I trap in 3rd, but my 1-2 shift points, and 2-3 shift points vary (from 6200 to 6600). And to be honest, practice. When I hit 12's in the spring I had gone to the track two weeks in a row and had made ~10 passes in that period. (I was running 12.9x - 13.1x runs the last 4 passes).

Anyway I had fun, and saw some very cool Mustangs from my local club run into the 9's/10's with cars they drove to the track.

I haven't considered 4.56's. I have considered 4.30's, but those gears negate any fun at a road course, so I think I'm going to go 4.10's and lose some weight.

More like a rear seat delete, aluminium drive shaft, and maybe a new k-member.

Plans for 2007 (Mods & Track Times)

What are some modifications you have planned for 2007 and/or goals for the track?

I don't have much planned this year except for a rear seat delete and JLT PCV Pre-Filter. I've got some 4.10's sitting in a box in the garage, but will wait for new 31 spline axles and carrier.

I'd like to get back into the 12's in the 1/4 and looks like March 31st will be my first opportunity.

My father-in-law sort of killed my grand dreams for the Stang by asking me to drive his track car this season. It's a 10 second; soon to be 9 second car so there's no reason for me to got nuts with the Stang for now.

Plus the plan for the Stang was to be a street/bracket car but that wasn't working out since the car consistently ran a good 1st run, then a slower 2nd run, and the 3rd run was always faster then the 1st and 2nd. That makes it really tough to dial in and run since I was always worried about breaking out.

I still like the idea of having a street car that I can just drive to the track on street nights, adjust the tire pressure and run without any real headaches so that's the new plan for the Stang right now.

It was running in the 14.10's consistently at the end of the season with 14.02 being the best run and usually happening at least once a trip.

The goal for me now is to get it into the 13's. I'm hoping the under drive pulleys and adding drag radials will get that done. I'm also going to add a line lock to try to save my rear brakes a bit during burnouts.

After that, I want to work on the suspension and then go with a new TB and plenum, gears and axles, new headers and H pipe, and finally a new tune after the upgrades. I'm also playing with the idea of exhaust cut outs but not sure on that one. I doubt I will have the cash for any of this stuff but you never know. At least it's a good long term plan if nothing else.

Adding a few parts for this season but still too cold out to work on any of them yet. Currently have a C&L upper intake plenum, Amsoil bypass oil filter kit, and chin spoiler all in boxes, pattern to make a rear seat delete, and will probably order some Global West LTAs, maybe some gauges..(not sure why I have put that off).

Hopefully get to run March 17. Lost a little trap speed with the new shoes..hoping to get it back.
