Since this is a related thread, I figure I would show you all what I did to mine after the black paint started chipping off. I stripped the remaining black paint off and used aluminum polish to make it smooth.

Use a new blade so you don't have to push too hard. Pushing hard will increase the chances of slippage and doing damage elsewhere, and the horn honks. Incidentally, I can't seem to find a source for the Saleen caps anymore, even from Saleen. Did they quit making them? Still no reply from MakingItDigital on creating a custom emblem. I'd still buy one from Shelby if they would just make one...
Very nice. Looks factory.

I realize this is an old post but do you remember if you had to disconnect the battery? (if only out of safety)

You do not need to disconnect the battery if all you are doing is removing the emblem.
If you are removing the airbag to take off the emblem then it is recommended to disconnect the battery.

I Came Across Some Deployed Airbag Pics & Thought I Would Post Along With Other Earlier Pics From Thread To Give a Better Look at What You Are Dealing With in Regards To This Old Question!

These Days its About Scratched Up Emblems Vs Just a Cosmetic Change. They Have a Much More Durable Setup on the 2010-2014's Just Plain Silver Setup.

As an Fyi Here is The Airbag Recall Information. If You Get a Used Airbag To Get a Better Emblem and Want to Install as a Unit Make Sure it is the Updated Inflator Which Has a White Sticker. From What I See You Could Use a 2010-2012 Driver Airbag To Replace a 2005-2009 or Vice Versa. Anyhoo That's What I am Seeing. Do Your Own Research and Proceed At Your Own Risk. I Would Surmise If Yours Has Been Updated with The New Inflator You Could Swap The Inflator. If You Have Not Had Recall Done I Would Highly Advise You Do! A Vin Check At The Dealer Will Tell if they Have Been Completed.

On a Side Note Back in The Day FORD Told Us To Deploy Any Airbags Before Returning For Warranty Repairs. This Was The Late 80'S! I Remember The Parts Manager Hook Up a Long Pair of Wires to One and Connecting To a Battery! KA BOOM and Up in the Air it Went! That Policy Did Not Last Long! I'm Sure Some Knucklehead Got Hurt Somewhere Not Being Cautious Enough! What Was FORD Thinking!

Later Down The Road We Had To Be Certified To Ship Those Correctly Marked as Hazmat.
