TRUFIBER HOODS for Those with GT500 front Fascia!
The screen thing was bothering me even before people started recieving their hoods and saw how flimsy it was. I'm looking into getting the GTS-2 hood and what I'm going to try is cutting a groove the width of the scoop from the underside of the hood with my Roto-Zip. Then I'll get some heavy aluminum screening or grill material and have it powdercoated. I plan on shaping it to the intake and holding it in place with an aluminum sheet metal cover screwed in from the underside of the hood. Maybe velcro would work if the glass around the intake is too thin for screws. Anyway I have a few months to figure things out as I won't be ordering a hood until late Spring.
Just me thinking out loud.

I got an email from Phil at Trufiber stating the earliest he expected them in was the first week in April when I inquired about a direct order today. I don't know if that applies to the BMC preorders as well or not.
I sent Trufiber my stock GT500 hood for research and development. They used it for the mold to get the front lines of the hood right. They sent me the Venom hood in return. I was without a hood for a few months, but it was worth the wait and Phil has been great to work with.
Emailed Phil at Trufiber and he indicated that I should leave my order with Bruno and deal directly with him.
The lack of information being presented to customers with PREPAID orders is horrendus and very unprofessional on both TrueFiber and BMC. I really hope this all comes out ok in the end but I have my doubts. The whole money up front thing set my scam alarm into orbit and I am kicking my self for not getting into this anyway.
Why is it that the only vendor that has decided to get involved in this endevor has to be so secretive and shady? I hate this.
Severl folks here say how great Phil and Trufiber are, well they have not been so great to me or others here and continuing to ignore the situation or pushing it off on a vendor is just making it worse. Other web sites and patrons are watching this string of events and I can tell you from other conversations that both Trufiber and BMC are fast loosing any good reputation they had online.
I've decided to scrap my plans to purchase the Trufiber hood. Between the vague and shady seeming delivery and financial aspects, the flimsy grills (one shouldn't have to rework something like that on a $700-$900 hood) and the over-large top vents, I'm afraid I've become soured on the whole deal.
Hopefully Cervinis or another vendor will release a KR-style replica before too long, if not, I have the skills to do a one-off custom piece for myself.

Does anyone have some good photos of the inlet vent grills that are being discussed? How hard are they to replace or repair if damaged? If its just a piece of aluminum expanded metal mesh, I am not worried about it unless it is glassed in or unrepairable. Just FYI, 'flimsy' aluminum expanded metal mesh is what is on the real KR in the inlet vents....but I have no idea how its attached as have not been able to sneek a look at the underside of the real KR hood.
I paid in full November 21st. I was told by Bruno that I was in on the 1st shippment and I should of had my hood by late December or early January now he is saying 3-4 more weeks
I do understand customs delays but I was told my hood was in the first shippment and then I was told the ones that recieved thier hood were the ones that dealt directly with Phil and not BMC.
I cant seem to get the same story twice.

I can have some pics for you guys shortly of the vents. I'll try to get a shot of how they are attached. You can ony see the backs of them through a small oval shaped hole where the hood latch is. It may take a few tries to get a good shot of it, but I'll do my best.
To answer a previous question......the mesh is thin expanded metal........a much thinner, smaller version of what you see on ranch/farm truck brush guard. I've done some checking and calling around and I'm finding that this is about the same style and quality of mesh found on most other aftermarket hoods with a ram air intake or vent.
15 3/4 inches long by 1 1/4 inch tall.

I am pretty sure this means that I/we will only need ONE civic grille and not two.
They are about $25 shipped on ebay and they should be easy to cut. I will be attempting this as soon as I get the hood and the civic grille. I will post pics and you all can decide if you want to do this as well.
I looked everywhere for some kind of universal mesh but nothing looked stiff enough. I think the civic grille will do fine.
pics.........The first is a close up of the mesh, 2nd pic is the driv. side vent, looking from outside to the center of the hood (note the slight bends in the mesh), 3rd pic is the pass. side vent looking from the outside to the center of the hood, 4th pic is the small hole that the rest of the pics are taken through, 4th pic is looking up through the oval.......this is the center area between the vents, note the way the mesh is bent around the inside of the hood and epoxied on. This is obviously done prior to the upper and lower halves of the hood being put together.
In pic two the mesh really looks bent.......it is, but this pic really exaggerates it. It does not appear near this bad to the naked eye.......I promise......especially when looking at it straight on. I debated whether or not to even show you all this pic because it may scare the **** out of you all.....It would have scared me, but it really isn't as bad as it appears.

two more pics of the same area.......I hope this gives you all an idea.
Dave, the more I think about it, the more I may just leave these mesh vents in the hood. I'm sure the civic vents can be done, but I think it may be a pain......just my opinion. I'm gonna make sure my paint guy degreases them real well, primers them, then paints them black..............back to what I said earlier about the mesh looking better to the naked eye......painting them black should disguise any imperfections even better.
