Well thats one thing my bodyshop has done with my hood. Take there time. They've had the hood for just shy of a month till I was ready to leave me car. I know its had 3 coats of primer which sat for 3-5 days in the sun. And even before he started work on it in its gelcoat state it was sitting in the sun for a good week to cure. So my hood has had its time in the sun to hopefully cure some and really absorbe that primer...

My car goes into the shop today. We'll see how it comes out on wednesday.

The guy I use said that ALL fiberglass hoods need a good amount of work. You get quality workmanship with the body shop, you get good results As far as lifting goes,I've done a lot of research and almost all fiberglass hood need pins. Phil did tell us that for street driving we wouldn't but if I remember correctly, someone said he was mistaken about this before I bought mine. I don't think Robello was bashing. He said his preproduction one was lifting so he could see where we were coming from..Bottom line...GO ALUMINUM

just curious..

I haven't had mine out on the highway yet - I've been laying low since my arm is in a sling...

the vents are all open, that has nothing to do with it and I have no idea what the problem is. The problem was first brought to my attention on the way to SEMA by Ed at SW who was driving beside me. We pulled off and checked it out and he concluded that we would need to put hood pins on to fix it. I have another idea of what might be causing it but will check it out before posting because I dont want to seem as though I am "bashing" anyone. Im going to check it next to my friends stock hood next time I see him.

the good news is that I had it up to 120 yesterday and it didnt come flying off.

I dont like the wires either just get real hood pins like on race cars where the pin is attached to the bezel on the hood, no wires just slides up and stays on the hood.

So I would say that hood pins would be needed.

I could understand that rrobello is bashing the GTS since "his hood" will be out soon.
not bashing at all....Ive kept my responses to a minimum in this thread because I didnt want anyone to accuse me of that. I have no problem with Trufiber or Phil, the guys over there are nice guys. The post about the bead was a simple statement that mine wont have it, never was going to even before Trufiber came out with theirs. If youve been on here long enough you will know that Ive been working on this hood for a long time, started out as something I wanted just for myself but then through a friend I am embarking on my first venture in a production hood...which is also why it has taken so long...Im using my own money and had run out at one point. Trufiber has the means to get it done faster so they were able to quickly add the GTS2 to their lineup after feedback from the GTS1, which is good for them. I just through the bead thing out there because it would make sense if that was an issue and you didnt mind waiting to go ahead and wait for one that would not need added body work to remove it.

Another reason mine is taking forever is because like most of you I am very picky so as we did one thing and I didnt like it or figured out a way to make it better we made a change. Also to make sure that everything I want to do will work...like hood struts.

I dont know about doing this style in aluminum, it would be very hard and expensive. I have another hood idea that Im going to start on that the first one will be in aluminum so depending on how that goes...who knows. I am looking into carbon fiber as well

while I wasnt bashing, the one I was speaking of is the Trufiber hood. Mine wasnt done in time for SEMA so we worked something out to put theirs on for the show...last minute. mine I should be getting early January and we will see what happens, I wish I wouldve thought of this issue or seen it before tearing it apart to make the molds so I couldve tested it first.

I for one am finished with fiberglass hoods, from the research i have done and listening to people that know a lot more than me, they are nothing but a big PITA. Unless it is stock from the factory, they are not worth the aggravation.
I am thinking of selling mine for the price of the bodywork and paint, I always thought the Saleen hood would be perfect on my car, cost is what stopped me, 1500 for the aluminum hood , + paint and a small amout of prep . With shipping you are over 2000 bucks .

Wow your selling the GTS2? Or just venting. Have you talked to phil to see if theres anything he can do for you? You shouldn't have to bit the bullit on this purchase...

Well after reading 15 pages about this hood, I guess I've decided against it as well. I thought this was the one. But I hit 100mph too often to have the front corners lifting up and shaking and all of that. I'm glad I read this thread to the end.

This hood sure looks REAL good on y'all's car. I'll just have to save up for the Saleen aluminum one.

Are you referring to him mentioning hood pins without wires?

yep those are the pins Im talking about, look more racey anyways. was originally thinking of doing something like the twist locks before they came out for this car because I always liked them on the old stangs but then I saw them and how big and goofy they look on the S197s and am back to just the simple functional race pins

Not liking those either Robello. I guess I'm stuck with pins and cables for now. I'm thinking the Shelby billet/stainless set because they are supposed to resist rust. What do you think?

Well I got my hood back from the shop. Here some quick pictures from the garage. It was dark out. Better pictures tomorrow/Thanksgiving. Paint match was excellent. My cellphone washed out the color of my car. Fit was great.
