The lenses are clear but the entire inside of the housing is black. There is no chrome reflector inside the turn lenses...

This is what I have...

Interesting, yours like others I've seen are stamped "DOT" yet non had amber reflectors in them. I'm wondering if that is no longer a requirement or the offshore manufacturers are just putting on the DOT lettering without complying? I'll have to research the DOT web site.

Certain states allow white reflectors (asked a CT state trooper), but A reflector is needed on the front which I do not see in those black housings.

Did some light reading on the subject. FMCSA 393.7 and FMCSA Regulation 571.108 on the subject of reflex reflectors. The requirement for our vehicles is that there be a red reflector on each side of the vehicle to the rear of the rear wheels and an amber reflector on each side in front of the front wheels. All have to be at a minimum of 15" above the ground. They have to comply with SAE J594 and unfortunately you have to pay upwards of $60 to see that document. So the clear rear marker covers and the clear front corner covers are only legal if they reflect red and amber respectively and the color has to comply to SAE J578.

I also read a ruling from DOT that while clear rear brake lights are illegal, unless they are OEM, clear front turn signals are legal. The reasoning was that there are amber turn signal bulbs that comply to the color requirements of SAE J578 but there have been no red rear bulbs that comply. Yet if the front corner lamps are the only front reflective area then they still have to reflect amber to meet SAE J594 requirements.

Interesting as well is the "DOT" marks on the lamps. This is a voluntary marking which only means that the manufacturer understands the regulations and has complied. It does not mean that the DOT has inspected and approved these devices. Knowing the adherence to both copyright and patents that the Chinese have followed you can rest assured that everything is to code, NOT.

P.S. The clear brake lights referred to above were those with incandecent bulbs. Clear rear taillights with LEDs are compliant if they contain red reflex reflectors which adhere to the colors specified by SAE J594. There must be two reflectors per side.

Caveat Emptor

I saw that you had the stealth bulbs. Glad to hear that you passed inspection. My concern is whether or not they are looking for amber reflectors from the side. I believe they are. Great that you are good in your state, I don't know if every would be so lucky. I remember a crackdown in my area some time ago when the white lights first came out.

Where did you get your JDM lenses? I can only find the all black without the reflectors.

Thanks.
